New Yota For Me. Window Tint Question

New Yota For Me. Window Tint Question

Postby Soul Air Uh » Mon Sep 22, 2003 5:22 pm

I just got a 99 toyota solara and I am so pumped! I got it a week ago...and started the mods! Tinted the windows, new wheels (Amp Type 1 17"s on BFG eagle GSA's, blue bulbs through out. I never had a car I was proud of...and cant wait to really hit the mods! Ill put pictures up tomorrow. Just got it detailed today...debadging and window tinting left it a bit of a mess.

Window tint question. Did anyone have any issues with there window tinter not wanting to tint the rear window all the way to the top becuase of the raised black pumps and the internal antenna in the glass??

I'm alos worried that I picked the wrong wheels...I really liked them at first but now I'm not sure. Check them out and let me know what you think! http://www.lesschwabtires.com/wheels/amp.asp

My wife wants to be sure I include the fact the "Solara" is really her car and the 84 Toyota pick up with 200,00 miles is my car!

I think those wheels (and that song) are pretty bad a$$, theyd probably look sweeet on your car. We'd all like to see some pics, and more specs on your ride! Good luck and welcome!

Welcome! I think the wheels look good also. Regarding the tint, when I got my windows tinted in Atlanta, the guy said the same thing. He only tinted up to the black dots. It was ok but still noticeable. When I moved to Maryland, the tint failed inspection and when I had it re-tinted, this guy said he could tint it all the way up no problem. But I'm going to take it back because like the guy in Atlanta said, there are some areas that the tint didn't stick so well and it looks a little foggy. I still like it tinted all the way up better. -JoeB

Welcome to the forum.
The person that tinted my rear window, went all the way up. There are some foggy parts, but it's unnoticable unless you look up close. I think it's better than just tinting up to the dots, my friend's civic has that and it looks weird.

Go to this link:
http://www.zer0.info/solaraguy/viewtopi ... +tape+tint
Tells you a lot about "black tape/vinyl" that covers the top portion of your rear window.

I got my 99 Solara rear window tinted with 20% all the way to the top and can see some foggy areas where the dots are. It is noticeable inside the car but not outside. I don't like it, but it is better than stopping the tint before the dots.

I got 13% on mine and the guy just went up to the dot matrix. He then painted over the dots to make everything look smooth. It looks really nice from the outside. You can't see through it but it looks a lot better than the window looking foggy or just a clear strip on your window. Just go to the guy that did it and ask him if he could do that or you could just yourself. It shouldn't be so hard to mask off what you don't want painted and go for it if you're a decent painter that is. Btw they used spray paint and not the kind you use a paint brush with.
