i go by deputylightning on a few car forums here and there. just got a 02 SLE maroon hard top

gold badges with leather and sun roof, v6 with 80,000

have no info on these cars yet and cant wait to learn about them

from about the southern tip of ohio

i really love the car and had it about a month and cant wait now its warm to clean and detail it out. first thing i did was tint the windows and put rain guards.

im a drag racing car show type of guy and got the car as a family car that looked sporty. found out that it can hold its own in the speed and handling department. i hope to find some tips and tricks on making it go fast on here. also have a few questions to post with a couple of problems and also how to find and get the right key phobs since the auction did not have the factory ones when we got it.

a little about me: 20 year vet of law enforcement, Ford black gen II, 2000 SVT Lightning number 3827 with mods(12 sec truck). have crashed a lot of patrol cars, stabbed a few times moved out of the way of a couple of shots that were fired at me and broke or banged up every part of my body doing the job i love, including back and neck surgery. just a good old boy redneck cop duel trained in ohio and kentucky and loafed in W.VA. god help me lol. atv search rescue and patrol, swat, drug task force, bomb squad, under cover work, but loved just plain old uniform patrol.

any question feel free to ask

Welcome, deputylightning. Congratulations on your newly acquired Solara. I have not seen a maroon Solara yet, but I have seen the older SC 300 Lexus in maroon with gold badges. Looking forward to seeing pics of your new ride. The following is one of my favorite and most useful sites for finding out certain facts about our cars in terms of similarities and differences in colors, styles, gens. and so forth: http://www.toyotareference.com/solara#SO Glad you are here. Love your avatar pic, by the way. :D

Heyo. Solara as family car?! As in, you're gonna regularly carry passengers in the rear? That sucks for them, haha. It's roomy, but I haven't heard anything good about entering and exiting the rear seats, and nobody's ever complimented on how they'd prefer the back seats over the fronts.

Maybe you meant you're looking for a 'sleeper'? Something that goes fast but doesn't look like it does? In which case, you've made an excellent choice and won't be disappointed! Many here have successfully competed in 1/4 challenges. Take your time to use the search function and read up and ask good questions.

Enjoy your stay, good luck!

^^^^^^^ Actually, the back seats of the Solara are great for securing kids who you don't want opening the doors on their own, and you don't have to have child safety locks to prevent them from getting out, and neither can they can't play with the windows. As far as adults, I discovered that the best way to get out of the back seat is to stand up, turn around, and step out backwards. It sounds ackward, but it works like a charm. I taught an old lady how to do it, and she actually loved getting in and out of my car that way. Otherwise, you almost always fall on your butt trying to get out feet forward. Of course, the passenger side is the preferred side for exiting and entering the back, since the front passenger seat is manually operated and it moves up faster (just by depressing the lever) than the powered driver's seat (that crawls). Sometimes when I'm cleaning my car, I will sit in the back seat just to see what it feels like, and it's not a bad place to be. It's roomy, secure, and visually aesthetic. There are a couple of nice cup holders on either side and a couple of deep pocket magazine holders in front of you. All you need is for the driver to tilt open the sunroof or slide it all the way back and you will be riding in style. Try it, you might like it. :D

LOL! I thought this was a FFF: Family Friendly Forum. Haha. I'm 6'1", and have ample room leaning the driver seat back and pushing it as far back as possible when I'm taking a nap in the car. The passenger seat is even more spacious w/o the steering wheel there, but seat doesn't feel as supportive. That back seat's terrible for lounging horizontally. Just doesn't work for me.

family car as meant in the wife and me and my 13 year old son sometimes.

i just really wanted a fun, fast and good looking car, but not something that i felt like i had to have a old people discount card to drive. i believe just by the little bit ive had it and scanning the board here i got alot more that i thought i did. i raced a dodge truck with a 4.7 v8 yesterday and put it on him good, then took it out on so back roads and was surprized by the over all feel of the car.

quick strait and n the curves and comfort i would expect from a cadi or something. i beleive i will have alot of fun learning and tinkering with the car.
