Hi all!

My name's Cory and I'm about to buy my sister's 2000 Solara.

I don't know much about the car, other than it has a sun roof, 5 speed manual, it has some issue with the door locks not working on the outside, and it's been hit by a deer. And something having to do with replacing the windshield washer reservoir... My sister wasn't the best driver of it, and it's got some dents and dings in it as well. (pics in this thread, soon to follow, once the purchase is made). And apparently the check engine light is on, but she promises it has something to do with the charcoal canister for the emissions.

It's black on black, and it's a lot peppier than my 07 Dodge Caliber.

I'm buying this car for 1500 as an interim vehicle. Currently I have a harley sportster, two Jeeps (an 88 and 97 wrangler), and of course, the caliber. All except the caliber are poor choices to drive with the new baby coming along in june. So the goal is to give the wife my caliber, make her learn to drive it (since it's a manual as well) and then she's got a four door vehicle with heat, a/c and a little more security than her 88 wrangler.

So why don't I just drive one of the Jeeps? welllllll, one gets 100 mpg to the TANK, and I won't drive the wife's because it's not very conducive to my back.

So right now, I'll be buying the Solara and if all else fails and the wife can't stand my Caliber, or driving a stick, we can trade it in, and I'm not out of a daily driver.

Besides, 1500 isn't a bad deal, I don't think. Especially being mechanically inclined, any and all of the quirks mentioned, I should be able to repair or replace anyway.

The car shouldn't give me any problems... I've driven it before, and she's been driving it for quite some time, with not many issues. She further told me it doesn't track straight. I noticed it when I drove it, and it lessened, once the front tires were properly and evenly inflated.

The deer that hit her, hit the front side of her car. I forget which side, but I know there was deer fur in between the body panels for a good couple months and in the rim for about the same amount of time.

I hope to fix it up, put some fashionable rims (or at least find some OE center caps to replace the ones that are missing), and enjoy it a little more than my Caliber...

NOTE: If you're 6'3" and 290 lbs... don't buy a little 4 door hatchback... the Solara should fit me much better.

She also claims that the key is worn down, which is why the locks on the outside don't work? ever hear of that happening??

I had a house key once that was worn down and wouldn't open my house door locks, so I'm assuming this is very possible with the door locks on a car. Hopefully that's the case and not the actual door locks themselves.
