Newb to SG, OG to the game...

Newb to SG, OG to the game...

Postby MCX20-XLS » Tue Jan 11, 2011 3:48 am

Quick intro. I dont like intros

Ive heard of SG for over 5 yrs but never had any business here. I turn to SG for info since the Avalon forums over at TN are boring & full of questions that have been asked & answered 5 times. Most 1MZ tuners seem to be here....

After a decade of Mazda ownership Ive decided to jump ship & get on the Toyota train. After 10 years of RWD goodness I find my self in Grandpa's big body sedan. Ive never been a fan of FWD's yet my first import was a 91' Infiniti G20. From the second I first cornered hard I knew that this front heavy, open diff, torque steer monster is something I dont want to push too hard. I'll have to trade 'fun' for better laid back MPG's...

Ive always admired Toyota's quality & line up but rather attempt to be different. Now Im here with a car thats closely related. I realize all the good years have gone by but wont give up. For the rest of the Gen 1 junkies that still live here, I hope to borrow some knowledge. Let it begin as I attempt to turn one of Toyota's largest FWD machines into something no one is used to seeing.

Pics of my 2 previous Mazda's.

I Dont have current pics but I picked up a 2001 Avalon XLS in Titanium Metallic with Stone grey leather. Its a full load with 75,000kms. So far I have dropped some major coin on JIC FLT-TAR coilovers that aren't a 100% sure fit. Air is way too $$$. Whiteline FSB & RSB are on their way. Im looking to go 18' staggered, 8.5 front & 9 rear over stretched tires. For the power department Ive sourced a Megan Solara cat back which will get hacked up to be fitted right on this chassis that is 2' longer than Solaras/Camrys. Also looking into a custom mandrel bent 2into1 Y pipe & order the Weapon R intake which is the only choice...

So I'll try to sit as low as this Japanese Pronard once I get my coils in...

Enough with the talk...

Ill raise my glass for the welcomes & see you people in the modding section...

Yes the 929 is the most underated Mazda ever brought to our shores. I drove mine coast to coast 6 times each way. Both were easily capable of maintaining 220-240km/hr speeds. Im staying away from them because parts are rare & very pricey.
