Hello from Miami!

Hello fellas! I'm new to this forum but far from new to the car forum scene, so no newbie mistakes will be noted from my end ;) My name is Mike and I'm located in Miami, Florida and I've been a Toyota loyalist for years owning a few Lexus'. I just recently had the biggest mod of my life and now i'm a proud new father of a baby boy :) With that being said, my 07' Lexus IS250 has become a real drag with the high car payments, so i've been looking around for a used car. Toyota IMO is no doubt as reliable as they come and the 2nd Gen Solara seems like a nice car to own. I have been searching for a SLE V6 but notice there are SE 2.4's like no tomorrow. Do you guys think a 2.4 four banger will satisfy me enough coming from inline 6's and nothing but RWD's?

btw... i thought i'd share some pics of the old rides ;)

Welcome, and nice rides. I'm afraid a 4-cyl. probably won't cut it coming from those IS's. Are you looking for a manual or auto trans? The gen. 2 only comes as an auto for the V6's.

yeah i figured the SE wouldn't be enough regardless of manual or auto. the only plus i noticed is that most SE come with the Sports Body Kit and finding it on a SLE model is very rare and after a little searching and reading those kits happen to be very expensive! chances are i will just settle for a Solara but I also have the 2nd gen GS300 in mind just because i know the 2J motor so well.

Welcome!

Going to a Solara after an IS will probably leave you wanting more. Maybe if you got a manual v6 (1999-2003), and maybe supercharged, you could be happy with it, depends what you want. I find my Solara very comfortable and roomy, the MT v6 has enough juice when I need it, can't complain much.

Gen 1 SLE doesn't come with a manual option, only the SE does.

Good luck!

well to clear things up... i'm pretty much done with the whole speed thing. i just want something nice and reliable that will accelerate when i ask it to. the IS250 happens to be real slow and I've gotten use to that style of driving. my only plans for a Solara as far as mods go, would be a subtle drop and some 19" wheels but that Sports Body Kit seems almost like a must lol

If you're only going for cosmetic mods, then the v6 gen 2 is not a bad choice. Welcome to SG!

I would suggest a Supercharged 1999 Camry V6 5-speed . Four doors is better than 2 with a baby.

Lucky for you (and us) the gen 2 has a huge backseat... so a Solara is a great choice!

I have 2 Solara's, one being a 6 cyl SLE convertible, one a 4 cyl SPORT model with many mods.

the 4 cylinder really isnt bad, and sounds amazing with the Injen intake. whenever i have friends in the car, and the rpm's get up, their mouths literally drop.

Make sure to get the lip kit, definitely sets the car off.

Heres a pic of both my Solara's :)

Get a 2004-2006 SE Sport V6. I had been in the whole speed, tuner scene. Once I was finished I got this car and I have loved everything about it. The v6 has enough power to break loose the tires from a stop. The only downside with the SE Sports are that you won't typically find one with navigation, leather interior, or power seats. But the sports come with higher quality fabric interior that looks really sporty and wont sizzle your back in the summer, or freeze you a$$ in the winter. Also I prefer an after market navigation head units anyways.

I am anxious to see what you get. I was lucky to find my 2004 with 14k miles about 2 months ago :D has 20k now :( Post pics tho bro!

Yeah I think a nice one in white would be a great choice. Also you should buy it from Maryland, it sounds like a nice place.

Anyway, Welcome.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

try to avoid the 2004, as it only has 4 gears instead of 5, and i dont think it has the tiptronic (manual shifting)
