although ive been looking through different threads for a few days now, i finally just joined...i have a 2002 sle v6, gen 1.5 i presume?..we've had it since it was brand new but me and my brother are now in the process of making it new and improved! (he's moved up..has an infiniti m35 haha)...were going to get a body kit..im pretty set on the Kaminari Lip Kit, i think it's the cleanest kit out there...and a Megan racing cat back exhaust. I have also gotten black housed headlights.... Im trying to save money wherever i can...so i know making my own mesh grille will help..

Image Image Hosting

this is the OEM grille that's on it right now..so some help would be much appreciated. Ive used the search and found a diy tutorial for the gen 1? grille...this one is much different, any tips? Thanks. :fadein:

Welcome.. heres a guide I wrote just for you!
ATTEMPT THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, these instructions are a general guide on how to do this, you may have to improvise in certain steps, so be smart, and do it right! Don't blame me if you mess up your grill. They ain't cheap foo!
OK..

You will need a dremel, Gutter guard mesh, or some other kind of mesh (alot of pc modding websites sell mesh like this in BULK), 3m outdoor double sided tape, Zipties, and any color spray paint to do this. You would need to purchase the appropriate mesh either online, or buy Gutter Guard mesh from lowes, I think its like 10 bucks for a big sheet of it.Im assuming you have your grill removed by now, if not, then TAKE IT OFF! Don't try to do this while the grill is still on the car. You should begin by cutting out the center of the grill out, following along the marked lines leaving only the outermost portion of the grill still intact. DONT CUT THE CHROME OFF THE BOTTOM. Then once you get that cut out, Smooth out the edges with some sandpaper, and mock fit the mesh. Mark what you can with some kind of writing utencil. I prefer a soapstone becuase it will mark on most any metals, dark or bright. After you have marked the mesh (note:be sure to leave about 1/4 to 1/2 inch extra space on the outside portion of the mesh, so you have something to secure it with) cut it using the cutting wheel of your dremel set to HIGH. Definatly wear safety glasses for this part, no one likes metal shavings embedded in their Cornea(s). Now that you have the mesh cut out, you can either paint it the color of your choice now (hot pink!!jk) or paint it the entire grill when finished, that would look best IMO. Place the mesh BEHIND your now chopped up grill, and put double sided tape anywhere the mesh touches the plastic from the grill (dont put it where you can see it), and then try to zip tie it in as many places possible, so it wont fall off. Your grill should now look simply awesome! Also:You may have to bend the mesh in certain areas to get it to sit right against the grill, remember: metal is very MALLEABLE.

It says: CUT THE RED LINES, sorry i got a little carried away with M.S. PAINT
