Death of camry brings birth to solara

Death of camry brings birth to solara

Postby sanengo » Fri Aug 26, 2005 12:42 pm

Let me explain..

I used to own a 92 camry and a 05 solara, but the death of my beloved camry in a car accident has left me with just a solara.

Don't get me wrong, I love my solara too, I just never had the guts to mess with it. Now that I cannot modify my camry, my urge to modify my solara has become unbearable :D.. sooooo I decided to join this wonderful community!

It's now time to give my solara a new "birth" :bday:

That about sums up my story.. hope I am welcome here!

Hey bro, welcome to the site. That's a shame about your Camry... Glad to hear about your Solara though, and that you are finally going to give it the love it deserves :-) Keep us posted on what you wind up doing with it! I look forward to seeing some pics!

Take care,

-James

Thanks guys, the first thing I'm going to do now is call up my toyota dealer and have them work on this car's transmission lag! TSB TC006-05 right?

Do I have the first GOLD colored solara in this community? :D

TC006-05 is correct. Do not approach it as "Hey, I found this TSB, can you fix it?"

Instead go in there with the attitude of "hey, something's a bit odd with my car... when I accellerate the car takes a second to kick into gear... I did a bit of research to see if anyone else has had this problem and came up with this (enter the TSB). "

Good luck!

I'm just optimistic haha.

I was extremely sad about my camry. It had a full custom exhaust from the headers down. It had tokico struts and whiteline RSB. Engine mods included a custom made intake and several other intake mods that leaned out my a/f ratio. My intake manifold was slightly ported and I also had the ACIS valve completely shut for maximum power. Not to mention I had JUST painted the rear center light panel black and installed several interior mods...

Before it's demise, it ran a 7.5 second 0-60

And if you have a V6 in your Solara, with the lag fix you'll be running .7 seconds off that number stock ;-)

BTW, what part of Northern Cali are you from?

Good deal, that's cool. I used to live up in Menlo Park and Newark. Davis is a cool area, good school too.

Thanks..

California has the big mean CARB restrictions.. as far as I know, my camry was 100% illegal, but luckily the cops I've come across only chuckled at the incredible loudness of my car. (no fines!)

What I want to know is how you california drivers manage to stay within CARB restrictions and still satisfy your power hunger? or better yet... stay unnoticed by the police!

cops rarely mess with solara, unless you drive stupidly and picked up other attention.

they would more likely to burst a honda or 240sx.

btw, camry or solara suppose not to have loud exhaust tone. i think your camry were loud because the exhaust didnt weld well. you might better to get your solara exhaust done at different shop. also, if you plan to make a catback, make sure you add an resonator as well.

My exhaust isn't loud at all, it still had the stock muffler. The noise comes from the intake and the engine running rougher than usual from the leaned out a/f mix. The engine is a 3VZ-FE, not the 1MZ-FE..

Since Davis is a pretty small city.. many people recognize the distinct sound of my car :).

EDIT: my exhaust was done in canada..the car survived 3 harsh winters with salted road and the exhaust was fine.
