3 More Weeks - 2006 SLE Convertible

Postby KeithH » Fri Jul 22, 2005 3:13 pm

In just three weeks I will be adding a 2006 Solara SLE Convertible to my garage. I am VERY excited!

I've owned a Supra Turbo since 1996 and have been wanting the Solara convertible since it came out. As with many things I set my heart on the Solara and would not rest until I had one. I am now in a position to retire the Supra from DD status and make it more of a weekend car - ok... once in a while car - but it will still make the drive from Portland Oregon to Las Vegas each fall for the annual Supras Invade Las Vegas event (I am the coordinator for that event).

While the Solara cannot compete with the Supra in any performance arenas (I've seen 1110whp out of a Supra) I can't wait for this car to arrive.

I am glad to see there is a group formed for this car and hope to learn a lot from you guys and eventually be able to contribute here as I have in the Supra community.

Soon to be proud owner of my first new car

Great buy. Good luck with your drop-top. I'm sure you'll have fun here.

Supra will remain in the garage. Am working on the motor transplant for possibly this winter if all goes well (7MGTE to the 2JZGTE). Shooting for 666 at the wheels. hehehe

Of course once I finish the Supra I plan to build a 30's roadster hot rod too. So many cars so little time.

Welcome to the forum! Now you have a few weeks to look at all the many good posts on this car here. You might also want to look at Solara Gen2's on CarDomain.com to get ideas on mods people are installing.

Dernit... me and my "hey... let's pick the hardest car from Toyota to get".

Found out the car coming in 3 weeks is already sold... as is the next one. My name is on the one after that but I'll have to wait until the end of August now.

Oh well... more time for reading here.

I'm surprised that the convertible is difficult to get ahold of this late into the summer season. Well, shows how much I know.

Welcome to the site. Although the performance isn't near that of a Supra, the Gen2's have great styling. Hope August gets here soon for ya!

Worth the wait! You're going to love this ride! What package/color did you go with?

OK... now the Solara Gods are just plain teasing me.

I came out of dinner last night and was headed for the bank to deposit a check. What did I see in the parking lot at Home Depot? A 2006 Lunar Mist Metallic Solara SLE Convertible with the top down (for those taking notes I should be taking delivery of a 2006 Lunar Mist Metallic Solara SLE Convertible any day now). I had never seen the color in person before and was a little nervous about it. This was also the first time that my wife had seen a Solara Convertible in person before and she liked it too.

This one had the Nav system installed (an option that I am not getting) and didn't even have the plates yet. I wonder if that is the car that sold recently from Royal Moore Toyota.

As of last week the report was that my Solara would be here on the 24th. THAT'S THIS WEDNESDAY! They are calling back again today to get an update on the delivery date.

Keep your fingers crossed.

I will likely be looking at the ground effects and the iPod2Car very soon.

And it looks like the Supra project is going to end after 10 years and be replaced with the Hot Rod project. I want a BIG lumpy V8 in a little bitty convertible with a rumble seat.
