HELLO, just bought my new 2000 SLE V6 5spd

Postby nummiesSLE » Sun Dec 12, 2004 12:49 pm

Hey, I'm new to the Solara world...but I have done my homework before purchasing my new 2000 Solara SLE 5spd!! I did come across a problem... it was advertised as a SLE five speed, and from what i read about them, they only came in autos. So I brought it up with the original owner before purchasing, he said that I was correct, BUT he had it custom ordered for a fee .... the SLE with a 5speed and chose NOT to have the autoclimate control to make up for the price. He even went as far as pulling some type of "VIN booklet"? where he flipped to the first 4 digits/letters of the VIN, which indicates SE or SLE. So after reading the long thread that was eventually locked and confirmed that SLE's were only auto's, I thought I'd spread my recently aquired knowledge that a few SLE 5speeds do exist (I am proud to be one of them!!)

Look forward to learning more about my new vehicle from you guys!!!

hey, thanx!! Just got the car and waiting for a day with atleast a little bit of sun to take some pictures (doesn't come often up here in Pittsburgh), i'll post them as soon as i take them. The cars got 48,000 miles on it....the ONLY thing I had to do when i got it, was put new rotors and brakes all the way around. And I think I see what people mean about smooshy brakes, even after replacing all the brakes... its got a different feeling than almost any car I have driven, nothing to complain about, just different! :)

welcome. And i've yet to meet a SLE thats m/t. Maybe the previous owner changed the bading on the car to depict SLE. But regardless...if your m/t the only thing your loosing is the auto climate control and the ever famous coin box!

don't want to get into the argument untill I get the pictures up...but i don't think this guy cared much about changing the badging, he leased it for four years and he's like 45! I wasn't sold on the fact that it was really an SLE untill I had the dealership run the vin. But for the non believers....I will get pictures of the car up soon, including the vin badging, oh btw....if you're reffering to the coin box to the left of the steering wheel, I got it :P ..kinda nifty

Like you, i myself am not wanting to initiate something until i don't see it myself...and SLE's came with two coin boxes. One on the left hand side..which you discovered..and one on the center console. under the hvac controls above the ashtray (the SE v6's and SE's) didn't come with that center console coin box!
All this coin box reminds me of missay and that discussions we all had many many moons ago..i guess only oldies know what i'm talking about... :drinking:

If you got that one, that's cool. It's just that I've noticed most salesmen don't really know what their talking about. :-?

Good call: the 5-speed manual...

Postby ezshift5 » Sat Dec 18, 2004 9:03 am

...shift V-6 Solara has only one flaw....IMHO...

1. Welcome to the Forum

2. You are going to be delighted with the tuned-in elan with which your new car treats petrol. What I'm saying is that the 3 liter six is extremely fuel efficient.

3. If your skills, traffic situation, state of tune and weather are anything like mine, you can expect 25-27 normal driving and a whopping 30-33 highway.

4. I had no idea the SLE was available with a clutch. Here's a Christmas present for you: your car's top TWO gears are overdrives.

Again, y'all made a good choice...

Holidays best, ez
