Hmm, somehow this thread became about gasoline.
Anyhow, you can't go wrong with the Solara. It is easy to drive, easy to maneuver, the ride is smooth, the engine quiet, and it's a relatively rare car (only 40,000 made each year). Comparing it to other cars I've had to rent, the Solara is great. Had the unfortunate luck of recently renting a Ford Focus (weird small steering wheel), and a Pontiac Grand Prix (why do US car companies insist on using a dial to control lights?). Ouch.
It's one of the few midsize coupes left out there. Your other options are the Mitsubishi Eclipse (smaller, unreliable), Dodge Stratus/Chrysler Sebring (reliability problems), Honda Accord (new, but hey, this is Toyota country), Chevy Monte Carlo (a boat of a car), and Ford Mustang (aging platform set for redesign) and beyond that, you're headed into BMW-type prices.
