hello all...

firstly, my name is Ian and have been an avid fan of the Solara for quite some time and have always envisioned owning one someday. well today is that day!!!

this morning I picked up a '99 Solara SE V6 5-speed, black on black cloth, and not one-mod (unless you count tints). the previous owner had all maintenance up to date and a binder full of records to validate. car drives smooth, probably due for some struts but nothing Megan Coils can't fix , and really no hiccups from my multiple test drives prior to today and the 3-hr run with it this morning on some errands. it needs a good detail, inside and out, and I'll also be on the look-out for some replacement interior pieces as there are some little pieces that good use replacing.

the car is going to be my daily, my other vehicles are a 2002 Lexus GS300 and a 1996 Nissan 200sx SE-R, and will more than likely have cosmetics added before any consideration of engine work. i have a pretty good knowledge for modding and plan to be a asset to the forum rather than an on-looker.

here's a first pic and definitely glad to be here!!!

btw, this purchase was a present to myself as yesterday was my bday :drinking:

car has 145k...but the engine runs like new, no hiccups (knock on wood)

yea, had the GS for a lil while, slowly wokring on it and now with the Solara...i'll be able to get her done without abusing it daily as I've been doing.

as for mods...after the full detail, i'll be doing whatever little maintenance items are left then focus on cosmetics. some things i have planned are black housing headlights with HIDs and yellow fogs (i'm a tuner :D ) then will work on getting some megan coils and stiffening up the susp more. after which will probably be the TRD kit from kaminari with a full paint.

in the meantime of all that i'll be working on getting those crappy speakers out and putting a better head-unit and some thump to make my daily use bearable. hard to switch from the Mark Levinson in the GS to this and be happy :o

defintiely look fwd to using SG and all it has to offer, and provide as much as I can as well.

145kk...yeah, the front bumper looks sprayed over as well but it is the original bumper and rad support/fenders so it was probably some cosmetic detail done. that grill will probably be modded anyway...diy project for sure!

Welcome.

yeah, i was in the market for a daily and luckily this popped up. i really like this body style, would of loved to find a 2nd gen...but surely happy with this one. 5-speed is a must, especially since I have the GS which is auto.

thx for the bday greetings and welcome wishes :drinking:

Wow nice 5-speed find! I don't know in the States but in Canada 5-speed Solaras are more rare than each any given generation of Supras lol! Did you get a good deal on it? Looks pretty clean.

spend the money on some decent speakers, cuz you won't want to go through pulling the rear speakers again. Even the fronts are kind of a PITA if you run all new wiring like I did

yeah, I plan to upgrade it decently...I'm a big JL Audio fan, so I plan to use a lot of their items. i doubt I'll have to re-route any wires, I'll use the oem harness with a jumper to the deck so the factory wire will work at least for the components.
