Black Solara SLE Convertible For My Midlife Crisis

After trying and disqualifying an Audi TT, Honda S2000, and MR2, I bought a Solara initially because it was the only one with a trunk. I will say that the car has grown on me in a marked fashion.

I'm now planning on doing mods for the vehicle such as black Kazera wheels (stock size-17" tirerack), wood grain automatic trans shift lever to match the interior, red caliper covers and drilled rotors (just for looks), rear view camera (a seeming must for this car), mesh lower grill, pinstriping, a direct hook-up for my iPod, a new exhaust tip, and perhaps change the dashboard lighting. I'll let you know how things are coming along.

I hope to meet many of you at the Elmhurst Toyota get-together coming up in July!

Of course, any suggestions you have for modifications, recommended or disreputable vendors, et al., I'd would love to hear them. Thank for taking the time to read this.

Living in the snow belt, I wanted to get a front wheel drive. That aside, the Z would have been a hellva lot of fun.

Welcome to SG, I'm assuming at's a Gen 2 and you bought it new right?

If so it's gonna be a little harder to find parts and what not for your car (as if it's not hard enough to get parts for any Solara) but it sounds like you might be more into custom and DIY things anyhow which is cool.

Lookin forward to see how evberything turns out.

Welcome!! I will be attending the Elmhurst meet with my Gen2. We are planning to meet at Hooters in Schaumburg just before and roll in with a line of Solaras. (Some modified, some just daily drivers.)

There should be a good representation from SG.org with a ton of information to share with you.

Look forward to seeing you there. Check the Events forum for the Elmhurst meet to get the latest on the meeting place.

Not to worry, we'll give you enough ideas for mods that you'll be busy for a while. Take a look at my CD website for mods I've done so far.

Welcome! If your gonna do the mesh lower grille, you might as well get the upper grille also. Michael would be the man to talk to. This is a Gen2 I assume.
Congrats on your purchase!

I have an appointment on Tuesday, July 5 @ 7am to get the lower grille, pedal covers, and caliper covers put on. Once the wheels come in, I'll be sure to get some pictures up!

Thanks to everyone for their warm welcome. To Phreak and other locals: I'm looking forward to meeting you all this upcoming weekend.

So how's the new bling? I'm eager to see and hear about the cal covers. I'm still deciding between covers and paint.
