Hey All
I live in Ellicott City, MD.
I got my first Solara in March of this year at CarMax Laurel Toyota in Laurel MD (new cars). I had a great time with this transaction. They had a huge selection, and the cost was about $800 below invoice. You can look them up at Carmax.com.
I got a black SE Sport V6 with the JBL 6-CD in dash changer, 270W, and moon roof (no wind deflector!)
I have since only replaced the air filter with a K&N that I got at Advance for about $42.00. No fuss, no muss.
I am looking to have the following installed by the dealer:
TRD Lowering Springs
TRD Rear Sway Bar (is this needed on the Sport model?)
I will add the front strut brace from TRD myself.
I want to change the stock tires, which slip like big dogs on a tile floor, and replace with 225/50/17, but I am still seeing how everyone here checks in on that issue, especially with the lowering springs.
I want to add Sirius satellite radio, but it looks problematic.
I enjoy seeing all the mods everyone has done with their Gen 1-2 rides on this site.
I am continually amazed by this car. I used the slap stick (old school term) for the first time a few days ago and ran right into the rev limiter in first in like .5 seconds. And I get about 27 mpg mixed. Amazing.
My most technical experience with cars was as a body shop manager in the late 70's, and I have swapped motors and trannies (from Chevy to Pontiac). I am only missing bottom end experience.
Currently I work for the gov, and am an information technology specialist doing a lot of application development.
