I've seen the w7's and they're huge, but they sound great. I've heard that the w6 has better sq when it comes to comparing both in a sealed box?
Okay, the JL W7 is meant for competition purposes and reaching extremely high ass db's (decibels). Yes, they are quite expensive, but they will be worth every $dolla$ spent (if you choose to spend it). On the other hand, there are the JL W6s which is the slightly younger brother of the W7. It is cheaper and can take a whole lotta RMS watts. The W7 can easily push 1000 watts RMS per sub, while pushing 650-700 RMS watts on the W6 is optimal. The other side to the subs besides the type of amp you get is the box. For the loudest & best quality sound on the JL subs you need to port the box! It provides the subwoofer with more leeway and free airflow. Don't scrimp on the size of the box as well, as it will deafen the quality of the sound. Generally, the more cubic inches the sub has, the better it'll sound. But you can make the box TOO big, as the sub will sound more "hollow" (for the lack of a better word).

So, if you are looking for competition quality subs with ridiculous power, go for the JL Audio W7 12" sub (only one will be necessary, believe me). If you want good bass without the bother of getting a competition amp, go with the JL Audio W6 12" or 10" sub(s) (2 12" subs would be mean, but require much more RMS watts to power them than a single 12" W6). Lastly, if you are looking for an excellent quality subwoofer for a price similar to the JL Audio subs, I'd go for either Digital Designs, Directed Audio or Viper subwoofers. Hope this helped. Peace.
