if i were to run a 4 channel amp..125x4, a 1500 Class D Amp for my 2 Pioneer Premier TSW-2000SPL Subs with my underbody neons, and multiple neons in my car, plan to add 2 more speakers in the car...to have 8 total inside and then the subs...would i need to get a new alternator or anything, or run my optima battery in the back and put another in the engine bay and then go custom in the trunk...i have a jbl bp1200 for the subs now and a 200x2 amp running the mids and highs with an audiobahn line driver and the optima battery and the lights still dim, the subs take a lot of juice but i wanna go with a better amp for my mids and highs so would it cost me more in power problems...?

You have 1400 watts now and much more power do you want to add? I have 1400 watts in my car with serious dimming problem. I just need to get around to upgrading the alternator....

if those numbers are RMS, you are going to be pulling like 180-195 amps from the alternator, all batteries do is give you more capacity not more power, the yellow top will proberly drain from that kinda pull in roughly 10 minutes. Unfortunatly an alternator is really the only thing you can do. i run pretty close to the same setup, my alternator just came in from wranglernw its pretty nice, 220 amp =0) biggest out there for the 1mz. im looking forward to it. Caps have also come a long way in the past few years. We are at the point where its better to get a 50 farad cap than a second battery.
If it doesn't kill you.....it only makes you faster!

So why can't he use one of these capacitors you speak highly of?

He can get a capacitor or a second battery, but niether one will solve the problem, reguardless of size (800 farad cap still wont even help a little bit). A new alternator is the only way to go.
Nascar would be a sport if half the cars were driving the other direction.
