Alpine 176a

Postby Callen » Sat Jun 05, 2004 11:29 am

I wanna spend some bank for some 6.5" components, and wanted to spend about 200 on a pair of focals, but on e-bay, there price range goes from 150 (for the access line) to 250 (for the slim ones).

I then was thinking of going CDT, but they have no e-bay :-/

than I was thinking Infinity Kappa perfect 6.1's for $200, but then I heard they're tweeter is too harsche (I don't wanna really make this a factor as you can just set the tweeter down, but everybody seems to have a sure opinion that the tweeter is too harsche no matter what).

Now i'm thinking alpine. However, on e-bay, they're most expensive component set of 6.5"s is only $119 (the spr-176a).

I have a 4-channel (240 rms) amp, which will comfortably play trebble/mid-bass, and as of now mostly listen to rap, followed by hard-rock and punk-rock.

First off, I want to know what anybody thinks about this model of alpine (good/bad issues/qualities). Secondly, I wnat to know what you guys think of my selection, and your thoughts on what you would do.

focal has a lot more than their access and slim lines, the polyglass, polykevlar, and utopias are all really nice. If you want to look into CDTs you should try the ZEB, I'm pretty sure their CL61s are on sale for a good price right now. How much do you want to spend exactly? Components go all the way up to about $2000 a set. Give a price range and we can give you a list of good speakers for that price. As far as alpine comps, I've heard their type Rs have a strong midbass, but crappy tweeter, and I haven't heard anything about their other lines.

Thats all you said about your price range that I heard. If you're down to spend $250 I would recommend the CDT CL61s at the zeb which are on sale. They are weak on the bass though, if you don't have a sub to back it up and want to listen to music heavy in the bass you might want to try somthing else.

I said 200 on a pair of focal, and 200 for the infinity perfects. Since I have to save paychecks anyway, I might as well hunk up $50 or so.

CDT has the tilted 6.5" components so they're pointed at you don't they?

i've got the alpine type-rs installed on my car. The midbass isnt exactly all that unless you pl on running w/o a sub then yes, it does do better than the stock speakers. The tweeter is a bit bright even after setting the crossover at the lowest setting. Its an good starting point if you ask me but then again there may be better comps for a near 200 range. For price wise, the type-r is a great bargain.

I bought the mb quarts 6.5 components. My buddy worked at tweeter center and he was going to quit. So he ended up givin me some 200 dollar components for 100 bucks. Not bad. I don't know much about sounds, but these sound really good. I heard boston acustics is good too.
