Double DIN Alternatives

I'm not a large Audio fan, but I want a different double DIN headunit, since mine is well...whack. I was wondering if Double DIN's are interchangable, like I really like the one in new Tiburons, so would I be able to take one outta there and just put it in mine? I looked on crutchfield and most double DINs are expensive...

Yea I just looked them up and they are a lil too pricey to what I want to spend (since I am coming to an end with my modding) So could I just swap with another car's stock double DIN? I really like the Tiburon's, mainly because it's red.

since double din headunits aren't big sellers the price will be higher... the basic double dins will still run about $350+ so you may as well get a really nice single din unit.

Your best bang for the buck may be the kenwood lcd double din... it's pretty cheap but I'm not sure if the features are all there (not a kenwood fan)

the double din set up in a tiburon is set up to interface with the factory infinity amp found in the TIB. I believe attempting to put it in the solara will lead to more headaches than not. If you need any help i should be able to find something around here, it may be used but i will do a full check of the boards and laser. We service alot of pieces here. Or im sure i could take care of you on a new unit, being a solara guy and all =0).

Just about every major stereo manufacturer makes a 2 DIN stereo. Best Buy actually sells a Pioneer that's pretty nice. They usually go for $400 and up. They look great, but they're likely to get stolen, as you can't usually remove the faceplate.

Just get a nice single DIN radio with a pocket.

I dont like the look of a single DIN with pocket...and $400 is way too much since I'm not getting a full system or anything. I bid on a stock Tib one, but got outbid. So perhaps I will just stay with my stock one...

I was just gunna link that. I got one of those last week, and I like it better than the useless pocket. The disc slots need to be softened up a little bit, but after about a week, CDs fit in easily. Also gives it a look thats a bit more factory. Stuff kept flying out of my pocket when I floored it, so I decided it had to go.

And with an MP3 CD player to go along with it, 4 discs could be your whole collection (40 hours or so). That means you can ditch your visor CD holder, and that big fat case logic CD folder in your back seat.

Theoretically, you could use any deck out of any car, provided two things.

1) youd need to have the factory wiring and plugs that goes along with that radio cut from the original car, and wire it into a harness into it. Unless the cars totaled, youd be hard pressed to find someone who would snip the plugs off thier radio as well.

2) (If it doesnt have an internal amp) youd need an external amp for the speakers. Sounds like the tiburion didnt have one, so you would need an amp, at two or four channels.

Pioneer makes great H/Us. What exactly does a H/U sound like? I'd like to hear your explination.
Nascar would be a sport if half the cars were driving the other direction.
