Amp and sub install

Postby oompah2788 » Sun Apr 18, 2004 4:38 pm

Is installing an amp and sub in the trunk easy saying i have a HU with rca outputs and and box for sub. I just need to know how i would go bout wiring it. I looked in the DIY section but found nothing. Someone should post this since it seems pretty simple. Thanks!

It is simple...
battery-fuse-amp
ground - amp ground
hu rca - amp rca
remote - amp
No offense, but it sounds like u shouldn't be doing the wiring urself. You gotta get help from someone who knows how to do it. Electrical stuff is dangerous

I agree with Geminimouse. It SEEMS easy, but it's more than just hooking up 5 wires and cranking the bass. There's all KINDS of things you should know, wire placement and configuration, fusing, ground loops, and stuff like that. Not to say anything of the actual logistics in runnning wires in cars (and Solaras are some of the bigger pain in the rears to run wires through). Then there's the tuning of the system (the single most important part of the install, and the part no one can seem to get right).

It'll cost you like $60 at Best Buy to have it installed, you'll get a lifetime warranty, it'll take them 2 hours to your 2 days, and if something goes wrong, you take it to them to deal with. Do that for now, and start small with other things, like maybe speakers or something.

Best buy makes you buy their outrageously overpriced Fosgate wire kits, I would recommend buying an amp kit from Wallmart, then bringing it to a local stereo shop for installation (prolly around $80)
Nascar would be a sport if half the cars were driving the other direction.

I agree with the guys. Ur better off having a shop do it. I had my subs and amp installed this past weekend by a shop, and it wasnt the easiest thing in the world form what i was observing. Pulling a wire from the trunk to the battery taking off a few pieces of paneling.... and some other stuff. You dont wanna mes anything up and then regret having started the installation all together.

You can also check Crutchfield.com for guides - they have detailed guides for "do it yourself"ers.

Nope newbie you never solder the ground wire to the chassis that plain stupid. :o :o :o :o
Remote to amp means to turn up the gain, and also to turn on the amp.
