Help: Upgrading My System

Y'all,
I just got my self another Polk Momo MM12.
It's on sale right now at circuitcity.com for $150.

The question is, what should I do now?

Right now, I have JL amp 500/5
2x100 goes to the front component.
2x25 goes to the rear fill
250x1 goes to Polk Momo Sub MM12.

Polk Momo MM12 RMS rating is 500 watts (1000 max)

Should I get another 250x1 mono amp? (So that I have 2x250 going to each sub)
Or
Should I get another 500x1 mono amp and bridged the two subwoofer? (Is it ok to use 100x1 instead 500x1)?
Or
perhaps can I use one 250x1 and one 500x1 going to each sub?

Thanks y'all for your input.

Go with option 2, since you are feeding the same signal/power to the subs. Option 1 may seem feasible, option 3 is a big NO, and you will not get the same output, even though the sub channel on the 500/5 claims 250, it won't put out the same compared to a 250/1, just because it is sharing the power supplies.

did you buy the sub yet? if not you can select another sub that rated 250W RMS to match your amp, and if you already bought it keep it what you have now but you will not get full 500W form your sub. hope you find a better way.

ooops, my bad you already bought it! all you have to do go return the sub and find yourself another sub that rated 250W.... maybe JL W3 oldschool. why you have to spend another amp for!

WHAT?

He said he picked up another Polk MM12 in addition to the same MM12 that is hooked up to his 500/5 already. Why would you tell him to buy a W3 to match the Polk MM12? :-?

If I get 500x1, how should I connect the two subs?
I remember they can be series or parrarell. which one is better?

Is it still safe if I get 1000x1? since it will power two subs so it kind of 500w to each sub?

On the 500/1, there is actually a pair of speaker terminals, so you can wire up the subs directly, without twisting the speaker wires together. Thus, the subs will wire up in parallel. Just make sure you carefully use the correct allen key to turn the terminals, otherwise, if the grooves are stripped, you are SOL. You can probably go with the 1000/1, but that may tap too much of your electrical system. Either case, run a 4-gauge power to a distribution block, with an ANL fuse or circuit breaker in between, and distribute the power to the two JL amps. FYI, my friend's 8-gauge power on his 500/1 melted just running one 12W6v2, after he swapped to 4-gauge, it was fine.

Thanks Luc,

I'll be hunting for JL 500/1 then. 8)

One more question,
Since it's running parallel the impedance will be 2 ohm? (what does it mean/affect).

Thanks again.

Yes, the 500/1 will be seeing a 2-ohm load, however, there will be no adverse effect since that power is optimized through a regulated power supply from a 1.5- to 4-ohm load. See this JL info page.

Thanks Luc!
I checked out the specs on JL page.

Kinda dissappointed since most amp give twice power when the speaker runs parallel tho.
