Idea for hardwired radar mute button

The car is in the shop right now to get the rear bumper fixed but in the meantime I have been researching this radar hardwiring and radar mounting for weeks and I have finally decided on what I'm going to do!

I'll post a diy after I'm done but first I need your input regarding the location of the mute button once the radar has been hardwired.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ESCORT-PASSPORT ... 488wt_1041

Thats the cord I will be using but they have given me a choice of a round or a flat mute button.

advantages:
round - looks cleaner
flat - does not require drilling, and flat cord to squeeze through cracks for easy placement.

disadvantage
round - requires drilling
flat - looks out of place if placed wrong.

I recently bought a dremmel for my dog's nail but I would like to avoid this method if possible.

So that leaves me with the flat button.
Other forums recommends putting it next the shifter but I don't want to disassemble too much of the car.

So where should I put this sucker?
So far all I can think of is somewhere on the left side out of sight from the passenger but I drive with my left hand so it would be nice if it was on the right side.

thanks!

My first reaction was, "I love my V1 and it was never too hard to push the button to mute it if necessary, but it's not necessary cuz it automatically reduces volume anyways." Doesn't the Escort do that? You have to program it, if I remember from the 8500 I had.

As far as button, There's a few blank areas to the left and right of the steering column. I'd pop out a mini panel, drill, and put a round button there. The one that comes with the ebay wiring looks really nasty. Probably visit Radio Shack and find a cleaner nicer looking button.

I've seen many solaras with their alarm led warning light in the panel area. It's easily accessible, convenient for installation, and probably within easy reach when you're cruising. I drive 5sp, and if I was gonna go custom, I'd make a panel that covered the pocket under the radio, and put the button there.

Good luck!

Thank you for your input!
And yes the 8500 has an auto mute where it automatically reduces the volume but a particular street is rigged with the radar that shows your speed and I regularly take that road to work and school.
It became really annoying going to and back from wherever, having my old radar freak out every time I pass it.

But yeah I was thinking along the line near the center console but I would like to avoid drilling if possible.
so far I was thinking about placing it somewhere near the key ignition.

I'll sleep on it, but I still have time since the radar is coming in the mail soon and the car is still in the shop.

hopefully someone else might have an opinion/ input! it'll surly help! :D

anyone? D:

or pictures on how your radar is mounted?
debating between mounting above the rear view or below the rear view mirror.
leaning more towards below but I heard you get better range above and better protection from getting it stolen.
