Are you sure it's the wing? Those suckers are really tight on the trunk lid. Maybe it's something on the inside of the trunk door by the wing, or maybe it's a lose wire.

What kind of noise is it: Metal, plastic, ect.
Yeah, I've owned 2 Solaras so.............................Image

Yeah mine does too. Haven't really looked at it much to see though. Bet there is some kind of bolt from underneath that pulls the wing tight to the trunk lid. Tighten that and should go away..

There really isn't much you can do. I just finished using raammat on my entire trunk. I covered literally every square inch. I also had a full kit of dynamat extreme on there before and the spoiler still rattles a little bit. Remember, no car was built for that kind of bass. Also I do agree tightening it will help to decrease the rattle but its very hard to eliminate.

Hey everyone, i had the same problem last spring when i did my system. I actually took my wing off and drilled holes from the side it mounts on the trunk and then filled it with like 10 tubes of silicone. No more rattles (from the wing at least) The only down fall is that the trunk is alot heavier when opening and closing. You can try expandable foam instead of the silicone but i was scared that it would expand to much and make the wing have waves in it.

Bringing this thread back alive....

I got a problem with rattling too. I got my sub in my trunk (check my WWW) and i took out the spare tire due to there being alot of weight in the back of the trunk and whatever else I was thinking when I did it. Well anyways, that entire molded metal panel on the underside of the car where the spare would be rattles and shudders like a boat in high seas when I'm bumping. Rattle is quite prominent from there, and not so much from the rear window and spoiler.

What can I do aside from stuffing it from the inside with some high density foam or foam substance so its tight (which is hard to do) or weld some metal braces outside? Ideas? IS anyone else getting this problem?

Ok I ran into this problem and it's really easy to fix. Go to Home Depot and get some weather stripping, the one I have is about half an inch wide, take your wing off and just peel back the adhesive tape on the stripping and put it around the inside wing, I have absolutely no rattles except for my sunroof, my wing did rattle but not after I put the stripping on and I have no dynamat in my car at all

EDIT: I'll take pix tomorrow morning and post them.

It's the Gen 1 mystery!!!!

Gen 1.5 wings do NOT rattle! =P Why? I don't know!! x_X Milton's owned a Gen 1 and now a 1.5 and he can tell you about the lack of rattle =P

Maybe it's a insulation issue. Add some dynamat lol or poor man's dynamat (cardboard)
1GR-FE ftw!

Hey i have the same problem with the sheet metel from where the spare tire is rattling. We tried welding an L beam straight across the center of the trunk. It helped but it just caused everything else to rattle around it. I havent tried anything recently, im just living with it..lol You could try welding several beams and pipes or just fill it up with cement like i was told to do. The cement would solve the noise problem but would add alot of weight and i already have a few hundred pounds of equipment and wood there.

Mine rattles but I can't hear it inside the car. I would like it to stop so I can listen to my music outside of my car too though. Can you get that foam at a Lowes or Home Depot or some specialty store?

WOW! Finally someone on the board with my EXACT problem speaks. Thanks for making me not feel alone. I have no problem with any rattling from my spoiler (because its non-existant or just so low compared to the spare tire thing rattling) or the trunk lid. That damn spare tire well.

I'm gonna see if I can have it filled up to the wood trunk platform with a dense expanding foam being kept under pressure by the sub sitting on top of it. Might come close to having the same pressure exerted by the concrete to keep the walls of the spare well from vibrating, but weigh considerably less.

Keep me posted if you have an idea or are trying something as well. Oh yeah and I think that ur solara is one of the ones on cardomain that stuck out to me. The rims and the great wax job are really stunning. :)

I used to own a 94 Corolla and had a ton of rattle. I went and picked up come rubber underbody coating, the stuff people spray on their underbody in the winter to prevent rust from salt. Pulled out all the carpet and spare tire and sprayed the hell out of my trunk and trunk lid. Let it dry for a good 2 days and that should solve a lot of the problem inside the trunk. Also, the first thing you should check for ratttles is the license plate.
