.onetohate's right... We need more info...

What do you plan to do with your system? What do you want out of it? Do you plan to run any amp(s)? Do you have a sub / plan to add one? What kind of headunit do you have / will you be using?

Too many unknowns to give a good answer... give us the above info and we'll help further.

I highly advise against it... Start with a good quality headunit and go from there, you definitely won't regret it. You can get a solid, mid-line Alpine or Eclipse headunit (those are, IMHO, two of the best "bang for your buck", good quality headunit manufacturers) on ebay for less than $150 used in excellent condition, so don't let the little extra $$ deter you (and don't be afraid to buy used... it saves you from retail stores taking a dump on your wallet and you get a LOT more for your money). Just make sure you get hold of a unit with three pre-outs for future expansion capability.

Once you upgrade your headunit you will notice an IMMEDIATE improvement in sound quality and volume, and you will have the capability of PROPERLY adding in your lows (there are many people on these forums who are quite content running their factory speakers on decent aftermarket headunits).

From there, if you are only looking for a bit more bass throw in a mono or 2 channel amp and a pair of subs and you're all set. Your options for expansion are limitless!

Its possible to hook up the sound system to the stock deck. Its not gonna be as versatile or controlable as an aftermarket unit but it'll do the job its their for. I have Cathy's (onetolove) Camry hooked up using the stock deck because she really didn't like the look of an aftermarket deck on her dash.-but that's her and everyone has their own preference. Now tell the people what you are after-VOLUME or CLARITY?.

Hooking amps to factory headunits not only limits controllability and other function, it is VERY limiting to sound quality and output... Unfortunately, In my 12 years in audio I've NEVER heard a "good sounding" setup utilizing the factory head (yes, this is my opinion... we are each entitled to our own, and some people may find it sufficient)... It's just a tremendous bottle neck...

Image Dynamics make excellent products, and are definitely worth checking out (and their lower to mid lines do offer a good "bang for your buck"). I have mixed feelings about Arc...

And if you run your stuff off the factory head, you may as well go to Walmart...

wow, you guys have been very helpfull. Okay, so lets work off the head unit. I am looking for both loudnes and clarity, but if i have to compromise, im lenient on the loudness and more for clarity.
