Well, .... Listening to "TOOL'S 10,000 DAYS" on the highway, doing 75, cranked up to concert levels, apparently has harmful effects,......who knew? A new JBL for that door retails for 189.95 I've got a buddy at Toyota that can get it for $99. But I'm going to blow these too, I just know it. So, I like the overall stock system 6disc/8spkr w/factory sub and tweeters. What about replacing the front door 6 1/2's with some new pioneers like: Pioneer TS-A1672R 3-ways $79.99pair.
Anyone have any experience with this? Besides a little creative wiring what other problems may exist? Is there something better in the range of $80-$120 I should look at? I'll do the install myself. Thanks for the advice, in advance.

^^^ Not necessarily recommending "EBAY", but I pulled a description for you... these Memphis are "bi-ampable" and come with a HI/LOW pass x-over that will keep the LOWER bass from getting to them... = harder to BLOW with loud play. Your stock system should power them, and the price is in your range...

I put 2 x 6x9's of these in my Gen 2, and am running them off the stock JBL at the moment. They sound MUCH better than stock! (I will be AMPLIFYING my whole system very soon, however... 8) )

FWIW.

There's a link to my project using the Memphis.

(NOTE: The INFINITY mentioned above are good speakers too! I'd "cap" them or cross them over if they are playing "full range", it will reduce the chance of "blowing". Best bet is DON'T PLAY DISTORTION! )

10,000 rocks... Like they said, aftermarket speakers are ALWAYS better than even premium factory.

finished mine sometime back, and personally , i didn't notice much change in the front ones for some reason.. i guess you would have to get higher end 6.5's and at least a four channel amp to drive em'. this might or might not require custom wiring depending on what intentions you have.
the rear ones' ... now that's soimething different.
infinity has a pretty good range of nice sounding 6 x 9's but other than that ,generally, aftermarket upgrades sound much better

'''''''' didnt know of any gen 1 with an 8 speaker system tho.
