Bypassing video lock on dvd

Postby Deion » Wed Jun 14, 2006 8:48 pm

I traded in my old Valor DDW-650W for their new touchscreen model. The older model was easy to bypass the video lock by not connecting the ACC wire.

The new model uses both the battery wire and the ACC to direct power to the unit. Does anyone have any idea how to bypass the video lock? I checked out the wiring diagram and the only thing I can figure is ground the "Reverse" wire to the HU to trick it to thinking it's engaged. There's no option in any of the menu's to bypass the video lock.

There were only 3 other wires I didn't connect: Mute(Phone), Reverse and Center channel.

Any ideas?

Since noone has replied i thought this might help, I have a JVC screen and to bypass it on there you had to ground the wire that goes to the emergency brake.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking but just wanted to check first so I don't mess it up. I didn't see a good ground point behind the HU, is there anything that can go wrong if I use a vampire clip to tap into the ground wire on the factory harness?

I'll get updated pics tomorrow, it was already getting dark when I finished my install and my good camera is in the shop for repairs. The only camera I have working right now doesn't have a working flash but still looks better than my camera phone pics.

Did your model start having disc reading problems too? That's why I sent mine back and upgraded.

No my model, the same as yours, worked well...just occassional hiccups playing SVCDs. Did you pay a difference at all in the upgrade? I'd be interested in the details..

Not sure where you got yours, I picked mine up from ebay (audiosavings). I was talking to Sammy, really good guy. I paid about $120, he lowered it because the origional one was still under warranty and was being sent to him anyways because of the disc reading problems I was having.

So far I'm really liking the touchscreen, and that knob to move forward/back on the model you have felt junky to me and didn't work all the time. This one looks cleaner in the install too, it came with 2 different frames and even a metal sleve to keep it stable. I'm lovin how the new model plays WMA's and has the SD card reader. The new one also has a motorized safety for when it flips down, if there's something blocking it automatically stops.

I'll get pics later tonight, maybe a video if I can figure out how to post.

Thanks. I just connected the brake wire to the ground and everything works the way I want now.

There's updated pics on my www showing the new model. It's actually a LOT better than I thought before. I made a MPEG disc on a CD-R and it holds about 60 full length video songs. I was pretty amazed when it played it at really good quality, no freezing or anything. I guess you don't have to convert to DVD or WMV for it to play. OH.... and I realized you don't have to bypass the video lock if you do make the disc as MPEG, it reads it as a MP3 and displays the video.

Hope you'll like it as much as I do!

Valor DTS-605W.... it has a little less power output of the DDW-650W but I think the tradeoff was worth it.
