Help!!! My system is messed up

i used to have a 400x4 jensen amp to power my stock speakers and a 500x2 fosgate amp to power my 2 10" subs. someone bashed my car and stole my subs and then i blew my rear speakers.

on sundayi just got a pair of audiobahn speakers installed in the rear at best buys, my fosgate amp isn't hooked up to anything. it sounded good, but after about 15 mins my music was gone, lost of sound all the sudden, my deck seems to be fine, but just no sound at all. once i restart my car, the sound came back, but same thing goes on again, the sound suddenly dies after 20 mins......

anyone know what's causing this problem, i never had this problem b4, the installer doesn't know wut to do...... i definitely appreciate any help/inputs.

Sounds like your head unit or amps are going into "protection mode." If your amps have power lights and or protection lights look at them when the stereo IS working, and then look at them when they are not working. If protection mode is happening then one of your + or - terminals at the speaker may be touching metal (could be the metal of the speakers basket, or the metal of the car's rear deck).
If that doesn't solve it then go to your local Autozone and ask to use an ohmmeter or multimeter with an ohm function. Put the meters positive lead to one speakers positve (you can do it at the amplifiers speaker + terminal), and the meters - to the speakers -. It should be 4 ohms (depending on your setup). If you are lower than 4 ohms then you need to go back to the place where they were installed and ask them to repair it.

Here is the most likely culprit: One of the leads from your non-used Rockford Fosgate are touching metal. If your remote turn on lead is touching metal (other than the metal of the inputs for it on the amps) then your head unit will shut it off, which will turn off the amps. If you aren't using the Rockford Fosgate then disconect it. Pull all of the wires off of it and use electrical tape to cover them.

You can test the remote turn on lead with a multimeter. Check it when it is working, and again when it isn't. If it is on in both conditions then it is NOT the problem. If it is OFF when the stereo shuts down, then it IS the problem.

Hope this helps,
David
