MS Streets and Trips 2006 review
Well, I drove from Atlanta to New Jersey on Friday and Saturday to buy cruze's stuff (trd kit, rsb, carbon fiber hood). I decided I'd take my laptop with and buy MS Streets and Trips 2006 for the journey.
Basically I like it. It has 4 different map displays (political, road, terrain and night). I like the fact that it will read and display current speed (which is surprisingly accurate), altitude, time, direction, etc. The route was accurate and arrival time was perfect.
Likes:
*Map is easy to read
*compass and speed readings
*very accurate (in my experience)
*you can customize your route to bypass toll roads
Dislikes:
*the voice directions arent really that great (you may be on a 100 mile stretch of interstate and in the middle of the 100 mile stretch, the interstate splits. You forgot what interstate you were on and so its scramble time to think if you should stay on or take the split. It would be more friendly if it would advisee you of interstate splits like a mile in advance and say "continue on interstate ##" but its not bad if you pay attention i guess)
*The road map display has side streets white on an light beige-peach background and they tend to be hard to see unless zoomed in alot.
*You cant resize the direction window at the bottom or I cant find out how. Its either their taking up a third of the screen (its on bottom) or its not there at all.
Overall I like the product and think its a bargain at 79.99 which includes the GPS and usb cable. I am glad I got it.
PS. Yes I know I am crazy for making that type of journey. Left Atlanta GA Friday @ 4pm - Arrived in Garfield NJ @ 8:30 am; Left Garfield NJ @ 9am - Arrived in Atlanta GA @ 11:20 pm. Driving nonstop insane kamikaze style!
