Tweeter upgrade

Tweeter upgrade

Postby thatdamngood777 » Fri Oct 28, 2005 5:55 am

Haven't noticed a post for this(probably is one)so I'll post this question. I upgraded my supposive "premium" sound system that came with my Solara. Unfortunately, I didn't upgrade the tweeter speakers and now I can't use them because there 2 ohm speakers and not 4 ohm. Does anyone know what the BEST 4 ohm tweeter speakers are in their opinion or at least any discussion forms on tweeter's? I'm looking for one's that are UNDER $100, like $50 - $100 or less. Thanks for the opinions!

It depends on what type of music you listen to, and what kind of sound you like. You, me, jim-bob, and so-and-so could all listen to the same exact music, on the same exact stereo, with the same exact listening position, and all hear the music differently! One manufacturer makes tweeters that are supposed to be good for ALL music types (or so says the reviewer from "Car Sound" magazine). These are pretty close to the speakers I have in my car (but I have the upgraded tweeters), but I listen to jazz, blues, and classic rock. For those music types these are some of the best speakers I have ever listened to.

To the point: The Morel-USA "CR-101se" and "CR-103" are some of the best tweeters made. If you are willing to spend twice as much you can buy the same upgraded tweeters I have ( Morel-USA "Triumph!" tweeters).

another "aside:" Your stereo will only sound as good as the worst part of the whole system. Even you speaker wires and RCA's will seriouly effect your sound. For comparison purposes, here is my system:
Head: Eclipse CD-8455 (the Nakamichi CD-700II had to many problems to keep)
RCA: 6 Nordost Valhalla (with custom lead powder in the jackets thanks to the guys at Nordost)
Speaker wires: 15 Nordost Valhalla (four for each three way, three for each two way, and one to the subs)
Amps: 2 A/D/S PQ-40.2 (Needed cash and sold my 3 Audison HR-100's)
EQs: 6 Audiocontrol EQT's (I am thinking about selling these)
Front speakers: Morel-USA SR-6.3 3 ways (w/ Triumph! tweeter upgrade)
Rear speakers: Morel-USA SR-5.2 2 ways (w/ Triumph! tweeter upgrade)
Subs: 2 Morel-USA Cannon

As you can see, every piece of my system is just about "top-notch" and as a result so is my sound.
02 DWP; all TRD parts for 2.4L HT; Gold mirror windows; Nordost Valhalla, Eclipse CD8455, Morel / Renaissance, A/D/S pq40.2, Rockford Fosgate 500m, Garret T3/T4 ceramic bearing turbo.

Well, that answered my question! I had best buy install my system but I made sure to get the upgraded RCA's and whatever else I needed to make my system sound that much better. Also, a boatload of Dynamat across my trunk and wherever else needed it. I might give the Morel-USA CR-101se's a shot. Didn't realize tweeter's could cost so much. Thanks for the info!

What kind of amp do you have, and what kind of processing(headunit/Crossover) do you have?

Overall, what does the whole sound system look like?

You can't just throw tweeters in there and expect them to work.

Really? I thought any tweeter that has a certain impedance(usually 4 ohm) would work with any upgraded system. My amp is a 2100 watt Rockford Fosgate amp w/1 farad RF cap and a Panasonic headunit, something like this one http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio ... ctID=14898. The amp powers 2 900 watt RF sub's, 2 Alpine 6x9's and 2 Alpine 5 1/2's. Plenty of base and sound but factory tweeters are not strong enough to be used with my system. I'm looking for more sound so I can hear more of the song even when I have my sub's insanely loud! thanks for any input!

2100 watt powering the subs and coaxials?

the 5 1/2 and 6x9 are being run off the headunit amp, correct?

The head unit amp won't improve the tweeters that much further... 50 peak watts (probably like 14 RMS) per channel is crap... most tweeters need at least 50 RMS watts.

So, from what I understand, I need excellent tweeter's to get a decent sound from them? That sucks. Rather not spend hundreds on tiny tweeters. Think I'll get good tweeters and settle for so-so sound. At least so-so for those who are crazy about how their system sounds, like me! Others may not notice as much.
