Plan for Audio

Plan for Audio

Postby P Funky » Mon Aug 29, 2005 10:36 am

Hey guys-

Ok, after some thinking and consultation, here's my plan:

Stage One: Head Unit and Front Speakers

Pioneer DEH-P3700MP
CD receiver with MP3 / WMA playback
$149.99 - $20 discount from Jon = $129.99

Speakers: Infinity Kappa 652.7i
6-3/4" 2-way car speakers
$149, maybe - $20?

Questions:
1) I think I can do the HU install on my own, based on that other tutorial (how to bypass factory JBL amp). Given that that's about where my skill level is (prying things open, screwing and unscrewing things, with good instructions) do you think I will be able to install the speakers myself?

2) I believe I should be running the new speakers out of the built-in MOSFET 50, 50Wx4 amp, which means I need to bypass the factory amp, yes?

3) Would anyone in the MD/VA area be available one day to oversee this project or help me do it? I'll work around your sched. This is only my second mod, and my first real one (not counting the headlights, lol).

Thanks very much- reply or PM me, whatev.

1] Yes. It's pretty easy. When you disconnect the AMP, make sure you match the wiring correctly. Just takes patience.

2] Yes, you must bypass it. 50x4 = 200 peak... you're probably running 13 RMS x 4 in reality.

3] N/A

Right, that's awesome, I appreciate that.

So- given that I apparently DON'T have the JBL system, IS there a factory amp to bypass?

Non-JBL should have the amp right into the h/u. Then its a matter of disconnecting the toyota plugs from the stock h/u and test fitting it into the wire harness you bought. If the plugs dont fit you either 1. bought the wrong harness (which is why this is good to test fitment before you start crimping wires) or 2. have jbl, in which case, follow those bypass instructions to get to the stock toyota plugs hidden in the dash.

kay, so how much, like, "electrical work" is involved in this. Plugging and unplugging things, I can do. No problem. When it gets to stripping wires and such like that, I Might need some adult supervision...

Also- will the speakers I chose actually fit the car? (Front speakers, like in the door). Crutchfield says yes, eBay says no. I'm confused.

Its pretty easy. The toyota harness is color coded as well as your headunit's harness. Follow the colors and youll be fine. Make sure you crimp the wires tight, if they happen to fall out and hit metal , say bye to your headunit.

Best thing to do is to unhook your battery and make sure all connections are tight when done. Its not as hard as you think. I think you can find lots of tutorials online.
