Amplifier Problem

Aight well I got my new KAC-9152D installed and hooked up the remote bass boost to test it out. Something I found to my dismay that when I set the remote to 0dB it doesn't keep the sub off, just simply keeps it from being boosted. Well this kind of creates a problem for me, see if I can't turn the sub all the way off with the remote it means I have to keep the sensitivity turned down to about medium (I can't keep the sub on all the time due to my alt not being good enough plus the fact that my girl hates the bass) and keeping the sens turned down means I can't full utilize the amp. So I was wondering if anybody knows how I could find a way to kill the amp altogether when I wanted to, that way I could keep the sensitivity turned up and just kick on the amp when I want to show it off. If I can't find a way to do this it means I have to just keep a flat head screw driver lying around and change the sensitivity manually which totally kills showing off to all the wannabes during night-time drives.
It's mostly the car.

Have you properly set the gains using a digital multimeter or oscilliscope? If not that's the first thing to do(or have a shop do it). You do not want to have any clipping. Once you have done that you can then move on to setting the bass boost.

Also what kind of sub are you using and where is the crossover point set on the sub?

I would definitely recomend taking it to a shop and having them set the gains then. The sub and/or amp won't last long if you are letting them go into clipping.

It's worth the 20 bucks to have them set it up.

wow you have the first answer in every thread..i mean every one..that has got to be time consuming! lol!!

you dont need to set your gains w/ an o scope..would be nice but unecessary as MOST of us dont.

and fun tunning systems! your crazy!!!lol..it can be fun when you finish but it is a biatch sometime!

as for the amp question run a switch on the remote wire that goes to your amp..you can also wire in a relay so when the car gets shut off the amp will shut of regardless of the switch position.

when the car is running however you have the ability to turn the sub amp on or off with the switch..

dont have the relay number handy but i am sure camxrunner can help on that one

For your situation I'd just go w/ a switch on your remote wire. You wont have to compromise your gain settings so your amp will function normally when its on, but you have the option of turning it completely off.

Unfortunately w/ your amp, the "remote gain" is a bass boost. Its not intended for increasing/decreasing power output, its for modifying the sound to make it more deep. I don't know about that amp specifacally, but they usualy peak around 45 hz. I think they are a terrible idea, having an actual remote gain is much more usefull.

he shouldn't need a relay if the remote is wired properly. If it were wired dirctly to the battery for some reason, then yes you'd need a relay.

right..i always run a remote from the battery so i can install multiple components w/out the worry of blowing my remote lead however 1 or 2 amps do not require this and the remote from the radio will be fine to use and will shut itself down when the car is off anyway.
