Cheap Audio Ideas

Postby Arpsito » Mon May 23, 2005 3:32 pm

Im a low budget student, but i want my solara to make some real noise. I have a 2001 SLE v6 solara, and i have a few questions. Firstly, is there a cheap way to put some subwoofers to give it an extra pop? I have been looking at the two subwoofers i have in the top of the trunk behind the backseat, and I wonder; can i take those out and put better/louder/deeper subwoofers in there with out doing much else? And if so, would it make a noticable difference? If that isnt the answer, what else could i do to give my audio a boost. It is already a pretty good sound system, but i want more boom. I would also be very happy with any suggestions or advice. Thanks for the help.

-BTW 100mph on 610 around midnight, im too chicken to go much faster

The speakers in the package tray are 6"X9" coaxial speakers. They provide somewhat of some bass. Usually when you move to a higher quality 6X9 it just provides better sound in general in highs (crisper vocals) and lows (tighter bass response). However, the low just don't go deep enough to message your back. The trunk is used as a free flow enclosure. So, therefore the bass reponse is in the neighborhood of 65 to 85Hz (just IMO not enought to tingle your neck hair). If your looking for the deep low sound, the best solution would be to go with a single 12" dual voice coil subwoofer in a sealed box with a modest amp to power the sub. Here is a site that has reasonable prices on CAR AUDIO equipment.

Hopefully this helps out. :P

Good quick thinking. That a great one package deal. I'd IMO at least go with a 10" Bazooka with dual 4ohms so it'll hit like 2 10's. :D

^thanks and yes, that would sound good.

If he has the stock cd player he may have some problems. I am using my stock cd player cause i like the 6 disk, and i had to use a line converter from the back speakers to the amp.

do the bass tubes have rca inputs? im sure they do right?

Just looked at the PDF file on the bass tube and it states that the assembly has the RCA jacks. The only concern would be loss of signal. for the RCA jack if you were to run the standard reb white jacks (he might want to run some good cables like Monster or the twisted pairs from Rockford Fosgate gold plated). :D

true, there also looks like they have an AUX port to wire an external amp to it. those things are not too bad. id consider getting one if it hit harder than my 2 12's infinities with 900 watts....

its not bad. but ive been wondering which sounds better:

subs facing the back of the car with box pushed against back seat. or subs facing me pushhed against the back seat.

seems like subs facing me = crisper response
and faced away = deeper bass but not as responsive (and trunk rattles)
