system almost complete, rear speakers or subs?

ok guys, i ordered my fronts and amp. i got the mtx mxa6004 amp which is 75x4 watts RMS, and infinity kappas (:-)) for the front. i was almost sure i was going to go rockford, but then i started considering infinity and alpine as well. i want to spend less than 125 (ebay price) on the rears.

these are all 6x9 2/3 way:

alpine type r - 90
infinity kappa - 120
rockford power - 90

my main criteria is good, clean, loud bass response. the kappas will provide clarity for the front. the amp should be pushing more than enough power. and NO i do NOT want a sub!

if you need loud and clear bass, then you need a subwoofer. Because therotically you should let all the speaker do their works that they suppose to do. Now you are using the midrange to pump bass...just expect lot of rattle and not clear sound.

not true, you can get 2-way rears that produce have midrange and a woofer for base

That's known as a mid-woofer =P 6x9s are the best BUDGET subwoofer... but if you can afford about $300... you can get a simple $100 D-class amp and an Image Dynamics subwoofer. (best bang for the buck) and omit the rear speakers altogether...

There are 2 schools of thought regarding rear speakers:

1. Needed to have the full surround effect

2. Not needed. Live music is only heard through the front (true) but you need a true subwoofer for bass

I went with choice 1... but my rears are the same speakers as my front... and I have subwoofers

the mini midrange still sounds like a tweeter for me. you can do whatever you want. I can also certainly tell you 4 way 6x9 cannot push bass as hard as 1 way or 2 way.

I have 2 way infinity 6x9's for rears. I was gonna do what you are planning to do, get some strong 6x9's and skip the sub. They can take the bass for sure, but after I broke down and installed my sub I could never go back to how it was without it. A sub, even a small one, rounds out the whole system. You also wont be driving the 6x9's so hard to get what is in actuality, mediocre bass. With some smart shopping on ebay you can put together a 10" sealed enclosure sub package with a decent 200 watt amp for under $200.

Try adding the sub first, using the money you would have spent on 6x9's. With the boom in the trunk handling everything ~120hz and below, you can turn down the bass on your regular speakers, making them sound much cleaner and allowing you to run them louder without distortion.

yea but i already got the 4 channel amp and speakers for the front. so just tell me what brand you recommend for rears.

just out of curiousity, is there any way to bridge two channels into one sub? in other words, use two channels on the amp for my front speakers, and then use two channels bridged to the sub, and then no rear speakers at all. does that work?

but im still looking for input for the best brand to go for the rears

You want a D-Class to run the sub... or a amp that's designed for it. Don't do that... but if you do, record the install

There should be a way (some amps) to make it 2 channel only, but it'll have more power... i think you can just run 2 and leave the other 2 alone...

yes, i recommend the 692.5i (only downside is you have to drill holes to mount them or modify the stock bracket, like most aftermarket speakers, these have four holes while the stocks have three)

they can be had on ebay for under $100/pair
