I got me a pair of Infinity Perfects 12" VQ. Specs here:

http://www.infinitysystems.com/caraudio ... PE&Cat=SUB

its 400w RMS each, SVC, 4ohm.

Also, already have the KnuKoncepts Amp wiring kit I bought a long time ago.

Im thinking of getting a mono sub to run them at 800w @ 2 ohms. I hear Infinitys are sensitive to over wattage, so I want to keep it as close to 800w as possible. Problem is most of the more popular amps come in 500-600w and 1000-1200w, with a big hole in between. Can any of our audio gurus here recommend me a good amp, pref around 750-800w's for this setup?

Also, this sub works in sealed and vented/ported, but I think I'm going to keep it sealed. Are the sealed boxes on the market all created equal or is there a brand or design I should look out for or stay away from? Also, any of your local guys know any custom box builders in Jersey? I havent been able to find a single name to look up thru my car sources. If I had some shop experience and the tools, I'd trying doing it myself as a project, but I dont even own a jigsaw.

Any ideas appreciated.

The reason why there is a gap in power specs is that it is very difficult to hear the difference between 600 and 800 watts. So any good amp company will usually double the power between there power ratings. Also, many amp companies hype up there power ratings to sell there amplifiers. The more power that they say they produce, the better the amp looks to someone who may not know as much as they should. A good rule of thumb that I like to go by is, If the amp has "1000 WATTS" stamped across the front of it or it has flashing lights on it. STAY AWAY. My favorite amp company right now is JL Audio. They offers 2 lines and the best bang for the buck @ any price point. If you live near a Tweeter store, give them a try. www.tweeter.com

400 RMS x2 = 800 RMS needed...

depending on what type of music you listen to and how loud you like it, you can pick an amp and box.

There are 3 general types of boxes.

Sealed = quietest but cleanest
Ported = Louder than sealed, but sacrifice some sound quality (SQ)
Bandpass = Loudass mofo box... depending on what "order" bandpass it is, it may sound like ass or be loud and clean.

---

Ampwise, if you think you won't overdo it, you may want to pick up a 1000 RMS watt amp (JL 1000/1). This way, according to Wortown, the amp doesn't have to work as hard to move the subs... if the GAIN is adjusted properly (LOW!!) Otherwise you can try to find an amp that actually provides 800 RMS watts.

---

Spec-wise:
RMS = actual power. PEAK = bullshit "makes my car go faster" number (lol)

Sensitivity = Higher dB of sensitivity, the better the sub sounds at low volumes (at least from what I've learned)

Freq. Response = Doesn't usually matter because subs are made to play certain obvious tones =P

Ohms... I think higher ohms = more stable power... I really have no idea... just guessing =P So lower ohms means high but uneven power supply while high ohms means less power but stable supply (due to resistance, right?)

I think MOLE has these... they sound pretty good!
1GR-FE ftw!

How much are you willing to spend on a good amp?

Those Infinities are pretty good SQ subs, and it seems that that is what you're going for with using the sealed box.

Off the top of my head, an amp that I'd highly rec. is the DLS A6. It's a class AB mono amp that puts out 870 watts rms X1 into a 2 ohm load. They do the rated power they advertise, not overrated or underrated.

http://www.dls.se/english/fstark/a6n.htm

That would be perfect for your Perfects. But they are kind of pricey. So how much do you want to spend.

As far as a box, definitly go sealed with those. The SPL output will be plenty with those two subs at a clean 870 watts. I know of a REALLY good box builder. He's know as Mr. Marv on the car audio forums.

http://community-2.webtv.net/MarvsPlace/MarvsPlace/

Get in touch with him and he'll give you a quote on a box. Good price on shipping too.

Try to stay away from prefabbed boxes. You want to go with a custom box built to the rec. specifications of the subs. Marv has probably built boxes for those subs in the past, and will probably know what works best.
