PS2 in glovebox?

PS2 in glovebox?

Postby Fresco Bob » Mon Feb 07, 2005 5:22 pm

Has anyone got the new "slim" design ps2 yet? cause I have heard it will easily fit in the glove box. Also, how hard would it be to wire the PS2 up to an indash dvd screen?

How would you run the power for the PS2?

That's pretty obvious. What I meant was, where do you put it so the wiring can be ran unobtrusively?

I now have a slim ps2 mounted in my glovebox, but it is very awkward fitting. It's only secured with velcro to the glovebox, as the big bump in the plastic behind the latch makes it very hard to mount it at all in there. The AV wires were very easily hidden behind the glovebox and down under the trim by the passenger left foot area, which goes back up to my screen, so you see no wires at all. The only trouble I'm having is powering it out of sight. I have a small inverter (only 175 watts), but it's still too big to really fit anywhere out of sight without doing any actual modifications to anything (like drilling the glovebox to mount it or something similar). Does anybody else have a suggestion as to where to mount the inverter out-of-sight? I don't mind disconnecting the top cig lighter to use that for power, I'm just looking for a good way to mount the inverter without destroying any of the parts in the car.

I reccommend you use the big ps2 the small one has a pop top and the other has a tray that opens so its easier

I doubt the big ps2 will even fit in the glovebox whatsoever. What I ended up doing is I took the ps2's power supply and sat it under the left side of the ps2, and sit the inverter upright on the right side of the ps2, and then used velcro to attach the ps2 to the glovebox. Having the inverter on its side should help the ps2 from moving around if the velcro is loose or whatnot. I wired the inverter using the connectors on the back of the top cig lighter, so it's nonfunctional now but I don't care, the bottom one will work fine. If I wanted to waste time doing the install I would've installed t-taps for the power to keep the cig lighter functioning, but I didn't feel like it since I don't have a way to acquire those in-town anyways. Everything has been working great, I will probably take some pics of it and my touchscreen if I ever find the USB cable for my camera, or decide to buy a cardreader :)

this could work for those who need power in your ps2. Mod a power inverter in the expansion bay like i did. It does take a little hard wiring skills but the end result is A.OK.

WTF is the expansion bay good for anyway?

Parker...nice pics. I love the look of that double din monitor. Have you tried putting the inverter behind the center console? There is a good amount of room down towards the floor, against the firewall. You might be able to sneak the inverter in there and your glove box install would be much cleaner.
