Help installing Navigation system (Speed & Reverse Senso

Postby Grant516 » Tue Feb 01, 2005 2:32 pm

Good Afternoon Everyone,

little trouble today.
I'm putting in a Kenwood Excelon DVA-4100 Navigation system into my car and I Need first to connect it to the

Speed Sensor in my car
and the
Reverse Sensor

Anyone know where I might find those two wires?

I've heard rumors of steering columns and the ECU.
Any one have any experience with this?

Much appreciation! I'll post some pics of the DVD player/Navigation when its all finished.
hopefully i'll get my car washed up too from this nasty ny winter.

I4 or V6? I am sure there is a wire on the ecu is for the speed sensor, you can have someone pin it out for you. The reverse wire usually is by transmission.

This is something from siennaclub.com, this was actually installing a Solara nav into a Sienna. But, it looks like it could be behind the glove.

Before installing the new nav unit you’ll need to run wires for the two sensors. The R9 connector on the back of the new NAV system needs to be supplied with speed sensor input and from the reverse sensor. The folks at oemvalue were good enough to supply this connector. The wire located on the far left (wire #5) is to be connected to the reverse/neutral (REV) switch. The wire in the center (wire #3) is to be connected to the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). I found it very easy to make these connections by removing the lower glove box. Just to the left of the glove box opening is a small harness consisting of 5 wires. The are attached to a metal bracket via a cable tie and must be cut in order to get some slack to work with. They are also wrapped in a rubber type insulation which can be carefully snipped off with scissors. Inside this bundle you’ll find two wires. One is violet (purple) and white stripe for the VSS. The other is red with a black stripe which is for the REV sensor. These wires are very small and fragile (24 gauge) so be extremely careful when making these connections. It’s best to use a “tap-in” style connector because it doesn’t require you to not cut the original wire but yet splice into it with another wire and continue the connection to the nav unit. I used 22 gauge radar detector wire and ran it up to the opening for the nav unit. At this point you can make the connection to the VSS/REV connector that came with your unit. Again, you can use the same connectors or a butt style connector if you so choose.

the vss is a pink wire on the ECU - look at my pictures for the location

The reverse lead needs to connect to the taillight bulb. On mine i think it was to the positive lead on the reverse.

Hope this helps

I took a look at pictures, color codes are uniform for same year Toyotas right? So if the solara has a Red wire with black stripe that in the ECU that means I dont have to tap all the way back to the reverse lights, right?

Thanks everyone for all the help, i'll have the DDX7015-and DVA-4100 up and running smooth in no time.

well thats off a sienna, so i'm not sure about the reverse signal wire

It was pretty simple to tap into the tail light. The manual should tell you if you need a + or - lead, and then just use a digital multi-meter to figure out which is which

Good luck on your project
