Postby SolaraGuy22 » Mon Nov 29, 2004 10:25 pm

I'm not sure about the 13.5 but I know that the L7's will POUND loud as all hell. I am installing 2 10w7's when I figure out my enclosure I want. They've just been sitting here. I will let you know how that turns out.

2 L7s...

a 12w7 can be louder than a 12" l7
so a 13w7 can definately be louder than a 12" l7
but 2 12" l7s... that's a lot of surface area that almost all single 15" setups would have trouble beating

the excursion would have to be pretty insane...

for them both too sound right you will need an enormous amount of power, being fairly level, 1500rms is about right, you really want to have some "head room" (extra power) for theses behemoths. They will need it when dropping low. Your biggest issue is going to be the power supplied by the car may limit you too some extent of volume. My suggestion would be to get a batcap 400 and a supercap. They should hold you off for the REALLY loud hits. But an alternator is always wise. The L7's will be alot louder, the cone surface of the L7's are quite larger than the one 13.5 JL.

Yeah man go wit Kicker.
My friend has 2 Kicker 12" L7's and they are mounted in a ported box, he runnin' almost 1400 watts. :o
And those hit so hard you can hear him a block away.
If you get the Kicker wit a ported box................. becareful cause it will tear apart your trunk. :o
No i'm just playin'; but the Kickers are the best.
I have a 10" L5 at home wit a ported box, and that hits pretty good.

Now i just need to make a better ported box. [ Like fiberglass or pexiglass]

really no contest... For some reason ppl think that b/c w7s are expensive they will somehow be incredibly loud for their size. They aren't an spl sub, they are a sq sub that just gets loud. The L7s are straight SPL, w/ little sq. Over all I would recommend the w7 if you have the money, put it in a ported box w/ 1000wrms and it should be pleny loud w/ much better sound quality. Also check out Resonant engineering XXX or SX, Adire Audio Brahma, Inciminator Audio Death Penalty, and Orion H2, all great subs that get loud. (might want to check out Digital Designs if you have the $$)
Nascar would be a sport if half the cars were driving the other direction.

If you find a correct way to modding the solaras electrical in a cost economic way so you can get atleast 1500 wrms out of the alt., let me know cause my 1400 wrms amp is only putting out probably 8-900 for my RE XXX 12". Good luck, and that 13W7 is a hell of a sub. Very loud with correct setup.

Im sorry to hear your ported box sucked. Ported boxes offer a 3db gain (thats the same as doubling the wattage to your sub) at tuning frequency w/ no noticible change in transient response (if theyre correctly made). If you noticed a change in sq when you went to ported you had a crappy box.

i had 1 12"w7 in the jl high out put box in my camry, running off the jl 1000/1 amp. hit rediculously hard, but destroyed electrical. got a bigger alternator and that lasted...for 6 months. when i got the solara i went with 2 jl10w7's in a cusom floor box.(no more spare tire!!!) using 2 1000/1 amps. that was completly insane, but this time i used a 15 farad cap by alumapro. that cap did wonders for those long deep hits. if your only comparing 1 13.5w7 the 2 kickers will obviously put out more. the issue of more surface area has already been touched.
