Alpine or Infinity

Postby Duffman » Mon Aug 23, 2004 6:50 am

I'm going to be phasing out the stock speakers and such and replacing them with my own system. I'm definately going with an Alpine head unit - I have one now but will probably buy a better one. Anyhoo...

Do I want to go with Alpine Type-R Speakers, or Infinty Kappas?

Here's what I've specced out for the Alpines:

Front Doors: 6 3/4" Component
Rear Deck: 6 x 9" Coaxial (with integrated crossover)
Subs: 2 x 12" subs
Sub Amps: 2 500w x 1 amps

The Infinity system would be similarly powered (would possibly use a four-way Amp for the main speakers as well). So... which would be better? I love my Alpine H/U and it's always been rock solid and clear.

Alpine or Infinity Kappas

I have Alpine Type S speaker on all four of my stereo speakers and they sound great. For the front speaker they don't really sell any 6 3/4'' speaker, they will give you a 6 1/2'' speaker and that will fit the speaker brakets from your old speakers. you probably need to use a washer of some sort for the front speaker to stay firmly on the front speaker braket. For the rear speaker, you might have to drill 4 holes in the rear speaker brakets to have the new rear speakers stay in place. [That is if you install them yourself.]

alpine for amps head units and signal processing of ne kind best out there ther is none better....however....speaker wise....it's entirely up to you and how much you want to spend.....if you got the loot....alpine type_x components...infinity can't even come close to that....also always mount your speakers to a baffle or trim ring made of mdf.....you will not get the full potential out of your aftermarket stuff if you don't.....might as well keep your factory stuff....

I was going to be using a rubber baffle for the rears, with dynamat surrounding it and dynamat for the fronts (maybe with a baffle as well). I've looked into the Type X speakers, and they certainly seem "pricey". Are they really worth it? And where's some good retail places to go look at them (of course I'll visit eBay when I'm ready to buy)?

*ding* Post bump!

MDF = Medium Density Fiberboard. Fabricated wood. Doesn't move much, which makes it good for a sub box.

The baffle is a rubber surround that goes behind the speaker. Seals it off, giving tighter bass, and protects from rattling and any moisture that might happen to be in your door or trunk ;)

I've yet to find a head unit that beats the quality of Alpine. What else is out there that is on par?

Not getting rid of my Alpines - Alpine for life, yo! - but would like some names to research.

Alpine does makes a good quality product. But, Pioneer, Eclipse, and Clarion have better DAC'c, Alpine uses 1 bit DAC's, unless you get the F1 Status line of headunits(BIG $$$) then you get 24 bit.

Pioneer, Eclipse and Clarion use higher voltage preouts, they have better eq's. Alpine uses 5 band eq's on their higher end cd players Pioneer has 13 band, Eclipse has 10 band.

But all in all Alpine is a pretty good choice. You can't go wrong with any of these brands for headunit choices.

As far as amps and subs, there is alot better out there than Alpine has to offer.

The type-c series components are pretty good for the price(online). But those aren't even made by Alpine, they're Vifa's.

I will give credit to the F1 Status line of equipment, that stuff is amazing. Very expensive too. For the same money as all their products I could buy a car and an awesome system to put it in :drinking:

My ideal is alpine deck with infinity speakers all the way powered by a JL amp. Im doing 3 way components in the front. Its like full surround in my car.
