Postby WortownSolara » Mon May 24, 2004 11:58 am

i used the weather stripping and now my 2-15" eclipses, in a 6.5 cubic foot slot ported box, I HAVE NO WING RATTLE AT ALL!!!!

it works awesome, i wouldnt use expand a foam though.

just my 2 cents
If it doesn't kill you.....it only makes you faster!

Thanks for the idea neo6205, I'll look into it. I did put some weatherproof rubber foam stripping under the license plate, so its def not that. Its not the wing its self either. The car is quite quiet around everywhere on the car with subs going, but the back underside where the tire well is is just rattlin crazy.

yay to weatherstripping, boo to expanding foam.... do it poorly and you'll have lumps in the trunk. That stuff's a lot stronger than you think, I've seen it crack through drywall and wood b/c the sealer put too much in one spot.

U have any thing laying loose in the tire well? If so it will rattle like crazy.

I have checked but I do not believe so. I took a loose white piece of plastic out that looked like a corner piece thingy, but it still rattles. Its very apparent from outside and from the back of the car. No rattling noises from front, front side, mid side. Back side is moderate, back is worst. I can't really open up the trunk floor because my sub box is so big and heavy I can't lift it up much, only 4 or 6 inches.

trunk lid rattle

Postby DonkeKong » Sun Sep 19, 2004 1:11 pm

i'm going to try the weather stripping on the wing, and the dynamat on the plate, but i dont think that will help my problem really... my wing does rattle, and so does my wheel well. The lid of the trunk itself rattles a lot too. The guys at tweeter said to dynamat the trunk lid, but i dont see how thats gunna stop the trunk lid from shaking. Would that dynashield stuff make a difference if i sprayed that around the edges of the trunk hatch, or if i put weather stripping around the edge of the trunk. I kinda like having my system be audible from outside the car, so I didn't know if I want to dynamat the whole trunk, but if thats the only way to stop the rattling then i'll do it. anyway... any thoughts on how to prevent the trunk lid from rattling would be thx

Nice, i got this thread on subscription, so I see its been brought back again.

Well since I last posted, I havent really done anything to fix the rattling. Its just been the same. Yes, it is not the wing itself rattling. I think its the wheel well where the spare tire is. If you put ur ear and listen under the car while bumpin, that whole thing rattles loud. You can see it vibrate and shake, more so than the trunk lid. The rear window shakes too.

An expensive solution might be to get a mold of the trunk lid done, and have a new trunk lid made with a thicker metal, not just a sheet of metal. Maybe some carbon fiber, 1/4 to 1/2" aluminum, or something. It needs to be beefier. And then have the metal under the trunk on the bottom of the car reinforced, removed and made with something thicker. This is just brainstorming.
