system almost complete, rear speakers or subs?

Postby hari-bhari » Mon Mar 14, 2005 12:08 am

actually i was thinking now to eliminate two rear speakers all together, and bridge two channels from my amp to goto a single 8" sub. that should produce much better bass right? and the kappas up front should take care of the rest. what do you guys think?

I've got the Alpines, and I LOVE them. You'll have to drill to get them in there, and I'd suggest using a baffle and possibly dynamat, but they sound amazing. There's good bass out of them - for speakers.

As for the sub? You can set up a "bass on a budget" system for $200. Go for a 12" sub... 8s sound too weak and 10s just sound weird in anything but a truck. Try the 12", you'll never go back. I'm running a 250w Scosche amplifier and a 250w RMS Sony XPlod 12" sub... (yay Wal-Mart!) those and the box cost me like $175. Throw in the wiring kit and there's $200.

any recommendations on rear subs, such as two 8s or maybe a single 10? i can bridge two of the channels from the amp (75x4 rms) to goto the subs.

You mean 75x2? =P Get a single 10 inch. 8 inch sound way too tight... 10 sounds tight also, but not as bad as an 8. Image Dynamics!! (dunno model #s tho)

well the amp is actually a 4 channel amp, so its 75x4, but im only using 2 channels. but i read something about if you bridge two channels, you get more power or something....

To bridge your amp hook up the sub wires to left rear channel negative, right rear channel positive.

A single 10inch in a sealed box is very affordable and will give you really nice tight bass. Just make sure you have a low pass filter somewhere in the mix so the sub gets only the bottom frequencies, or else it will sound like poopy.

Fuse Holder

What will happen if I had mounted my fuse holder more than 6 inches away from the battery?

alpines without a doubt. have them im my sis's corolla. great set... and with everyone else. forget the rears and throw a 12 in the trunk. that should be plenty of bass.
Alpine + Dynaudio = Sonic bliss.

It was a breeze...your step-by-step instruction was so detailed, it felt like I was coloring by numbers. Wann hear something funny though...I mounted my amp behind the back seat, perfect fit!

In the process, I locked the seat so it won't fold down, and screwed onto my amp. The bottom screws I can access, but the ones on top, tight fit! Now, I can't fiddle around with the filters! What a knucklehead! Until I find an angled philips screw driver small enough to fit into the spot, my filter settings stays they way they are.

At least at the moment I am assured that my amp aint' goin' nowwhere!

By replacing the stock cd player you are bypassing it. All you have to do is get the scosche or metra wiring harness and mate it with the original harness you were using before.

im not replacing my cd player, im keeping the factory head unit, its just the base non-jbl version so the amp is builtin
