Wow, someone with true people skills.

thanks :)

just don't want to see this guy end up paying for a 0 gauge or even a 4 gauge amp kit when he doesn't need it. a 0 gauge install can sometimes run you over $200

he doesn't need it, more and more poeple are giving advice on car audio when they have no place...

that amp has a 25 or 35amp fuse rating
4 gauge? ha, that's a laugh

sorry if i hurt anyone's feelings, just stick to what you know, or do some research

as non eloquent as he is, pro is the only one with any real info so far. the amp cuts out and every one jumps on him to buy bigger wire and a cap? if you're going to give electrical advice, know what you are talking about.
a boss "1000 WATT AMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"(!) first of all, if it says "1000 watt amp" anywhere on it, its a peak rating. Divide by 2 and you get the RMS: 500. Then you look at the brand: BOSS. They rate their amps at prolly over 20 volts, which means in a car, its lucky to put out 2/3's of its rating. Now were down to around 340wrms which can run on 8awg with no problem.
Oh, and also wire is never "power robbing", if you try to run too much current through it, it will over-heat, melt through its insulation, and either cause a fire or blow a fuse before you loose any noticible voltage.
And don't get me started on caps.

having said that.

When an amp is cutting out, the first thing I do is look at all my connections, including the ground. Usualy you can tell if its the ground b/c a bad ground will cause distortion. Make sure no wires are touching, or grounded that aren't supposed to be grounded. If you find a something wrong w/ any of those things, thats prolly it. If not, its most likely something bad internaly in the amp (which is known to happen to boss) Throw it in the garbage and start over.
Nascar would be a sport if half the cars were driving the other direction.

with that amp, you'd be fine with 10gauge wiring

it does no where NEAR 1000w rms

check the ground, make sure it didn't loosen

well i found the first problem. im guesssing the fuse i used (30) was melting unbelivably. so that was the main problem. second one is the box sux ass. i need a sealed one bad or a new one period i cracked the plexiglass in 10 minutes. 3rd would be my converter. its a cheap scoshe one to convert high freq to rca low. that seems to be making them sound flat.

lots of problems at the moment.

as for using the stock hu, easy as to why:
i replaced my stock speakers with pioneer 4way 6x9's and polk momo 6.5s they sound awesome on it. even compared to other ones. other reason is my stock HU has a tape deck. why a tape deck you ask???? well a tape adaptor allows me to use my laptop or portable dvd player and makes it a lower choice to want to steal.

okay here is what i did to fix the problems i had.

first it was the fuse. replaced it with a DB link breaker(60a)
i got 4gauge wire. and the best part: a new fuggin box. the box was the main problem. the ports/cracked plexiglas just leaked out the sound horridly. my new box is a sealed enclosure. sound so awesome. i also disc. the batter and adjusted the bass with it set a 0. now i dont ahve the major rattles so i can turn it up without worrying about blowing my polks or pioneers.

thanks all for the help.
