They rely on the fact that they only make car audio so they can raise their prices too.. Look at pyramid or Lanzar,,, what else do they make besides car audio?? (and how does this help them?)

bassthrive wrote: I forgot to mention satellite radio in my previous post. Also, I should probably add that I got my clarion unit almost half off the $399 retail (crutchfield) so that helped seal the deal for me. Good luck with whichever direction you choose to go in.

I'm not to concerned with satellite radio as my last three HU's have had them, and I'd only spend like 250 on that HU.

I have seen 2 Panasonic head units installed in friends' cars over the last 10 or so years and they both had issues. I have personally owned 4 Clarion models over the same time span without any issues. All 4 are still in service and doing well. Personally, I don't trust the QA @ Panasonic, but that is just my .02.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

Were they older units? Panasonic did use to have a problem with quality about a year or two ago. Since the time they figured out people like rotary knobs, they also really fixed up thier quality. Id say its among the best now.

Im not sure what shops carry Clarions, but the best advice I can give is to go to a store that hopefully carries both and experiment with the HU's and listen for yourself. I know 6th ave carries the panasonic, but I dont know about who carries the Clarion.

Yeah, base your decision by physically playing around with the stereos, thats what I did. Dont go by specs and pictures listed on websites.
