After my focal components (and/or 15" and 2 10"s) I plan on getting a HU that is DVD compatible. Now ever since they have come out, i've been in love with MP3 playback in my car, and am wondering if i'll be able to put mp3's on to a DVD +/- R/RW (or mpg's) in raw file format?

I'm no expert but I dont think there is a standard for DVD audio yet. I dont believe it will work. But can always use a CD-R/RW for mp3's

yes i know i will be able to use CD-r/rw (i've been doing it for a while). And I am not looking for DVD-audio,,, simply just a HU that can read DVD-R data.

Ive seen one in my crutchfield catalog. Ill need to dig it up. I think it was a DVD HU, but it didnt come with a screen, so i was wondering what it was for, and packing 100+ Hrs of music on one disc is probably what its for.

I gotta find it. DVD-Audio is something totally different, and I think theres a standard by now. Without a 5.1 sound system, DVD audio wouldnt work too well anyways.

Ill try to find that catalog...

--edit--

Found it. Its actually for backseat video, thats why it doesnt come with a screen.

I dont think your going to find something that reads MP3s off DVD, since most recievers (Car or home) are programmed to switch to the DVD decoding, and not MP3 decoding as soon as they realize theres a DVD in there. Isnt 10 hours of music on one disc enough? :D

The new Acura TL plays DVD audio.

and Best Buy has an entire section of DVD 5.1 audio...

I'd hope there's a standard
