best place to ground for parking bypass on indash dvd

Postby kilade » Mon Jul 24, 2006 1:48 pm

I just bought a jensen in dash dvd lcd. The install went great but im having a hard time bypassing the parking brake lock in order to watch dvds while in motion. I got a little one who needs to be entertain while in traffic. I tried grounding the wire to a screw behind the glove compartment but this didn't work. Where is the best ground??? Any special procedures such as disconnect battery, then ground, then connect???
Thanks for the help

i got an adaptor to connect the deck to the OEM harness but the parking ebrake wire comes straight out of the deck. It is supposed to be connected to the ebrake so you can;t watch movies unless the brake is on. I heard if you ground this wire it will bypass this lock. I tried grounding the wire but it didnt work. Looking for a better place to ground

I know this seems like something that's been heard a million times, but are you sure it's a pure ground (as in, it's connected to a point on the chassis and all paint under the contact has been removed)?

Ok, so I did that (wire parking bypass to harness ground) and it was working fine, But after I turned the car off and turned it back on, it wouldnt let me view dvds. aka I got the blue screen of death. Any ideas on why this would be happening?? Please help..

Just wanted to say I figured it out. On some newer models, so that you cant bypass the parking brake just by grounding it, they make you pump the parking brake a few times. To avoid this I installed a toggle switch with 3 prongs. One is the ground, the main one is the parking brake wire, and the third is the power which I got from the ACC wire. Hopefully this will help if anhyone else runs into this problem.

just curious but why would you buy a jensen? it'll crap out on you in 2 or 3 months. I bet you paid $500-$600 for it. I'd rather get the high end eclipse cd player that's $700 that only plays music not movies. I like reliability and quality over affordability

hey ramrod did that switch idea work for you? ithink ive got the same model as you (the 9021??) and u have to pump the brake to initiate the "sequence" or some BS..if it did work do you think u could post some pics of how u wired everything together or just some detailed instructions i'd really appreciate it

To answer the first question, I got the "crappy" jensen because its still 100 times better than the crappy stock radio i had which didnt play tapes or cd's anymore, just radio, and my ipod got old quick... Also, I got it through crutchfield, so if it happens to crap out in 5 years, they will still replace it...

Next, I have the Jensen 9411 model, but yeah, i think with all jensens you need to do the parking brake sequence. I will post pictures soon, but this is what i did;

1) bought a 3 dollar toggle switch at radio shack. I believe you can get either a 2 prong or 3 prong switch, mine is the 3 prong.
2) wire the parking brake wire to the main prong, ground the other one, and the third is the power, which I got by wiring the acc wire to(this is the red wire in the harness cord, i think it says acc in tiny print on the wire).
The switch I got also had the prongs labeled to help out.
3) I drilled a hole in the back of the pocket under the player and put the switch back there. This way you can activate the parking brake sequence if you want to watch dvd's while driving, but also, if po po wants to pull you over to be a pain in the ass, you can just flip the switch and its hidden so they cant search for the switch if there are cd's in front of it.

I'll post pictures soon of the final product..

well i picked up the 3-prong toggle switch today and im gonna try to wire it up tonite but had a few questions first..the prongs on the switch are labeled 1, 2, 3 and on the back of the package it says the middle prong is the "main" and the two on the outside are "Load 1" and "Load 2"..so do i need to wire the e-brake wire to the "main" prong? and does it matter which "Load" prong i wre the ground and power to? by the way its a 3-way switch that you flip down for "on", middle for "off", and up for "on" again..is this the same kind u got?
