im buying an aftermarket radio [question]

Postby poisonspider » Sat Nov 05, 2005 2:00 pm

I am going to buy a new deck, one that will play mp3's and wma's I need to decide which.

What are the performance specifications of the stock radio. I will buy a radio with slightly better specifications then stock, I just don't want to mistakenly downgrade my sound quality.

If you have any recomendations for my 2001 Solara SLE or you could post pics of your 2001 Solara SLE radio thats cool aswell!

also how many speakers does the 2001 solara SLE have and does it have a sub somewhere? I recently bought it and am getting a little work done to it, so i have not driven it much.

ive always been partial to panasonic and pioneer head units/speakers. bose is also very good, and of course, jbl :). the gen 1-1.5 solara has 6 speakers and no sub. someone correct me if im wrong.

:D Man you can't go wrong with Pioneer Premiere/ Alpine/ or Eclipse Fuji Ten units.

It depends what you’re looking for. Some units are better than other when you’re trying to retrieve radio signals. Or some are geared towards Pre-AMP signal efficiency and other are just clean with high sound quality as far as DA converts to high quality servos motors that read scratched disc. It’s all about how much you want to spend/ budget. The possibilities are endless.

Agreed. Clarion, Alpine, Eclipse (fujitsu) sound quality and construction dominates. My Clarion deck makes my old Panasonic MXE look and feel like a flimsy child's toy.

I just switched from a Nakamichi CD-700II to an Eclipse CD-8455. The eclipse is a far better unit. It has GPS, HD radio, 8 Disc changer controls, and Sirius sat radio. It sports 8 volt pre outs (beat that!) with VERY low impedance (so the full signal strength gets to the other end of the wire). Best of all it does everything in the digital domain until the DAC which ties STRAIGHT into the preamp out. That means the THD is very very very low. This head is so clean I was able to remove my Audiocontrol EQT's and just run straight from the head unit.

02 DWP; all TRD parts for 2.4L HT; Gold mirror windows; Nordost Valhalla, Eclipse CD8455, Morel / Renaissance, A/D/S pq40.2, Rockford Fosgate 500m, Garret T3/T4 ceramic bearing turbo.
