My subs (Infinity Reference) are rated at 4 ohms..... what would happen if I ran them at 2? I'm guessing they'd just heat up a lot faster and could shorten the life, but other than that is it an issue?

all it would do is give your amp a lower load so the sub would get more power

From what I know, it depends if you run them in parallel or series.

Under ideal conditions:
Running in series doubles the impedance and halves the power.
Running in parallel doubles the power and halves the impedance.

Youll want to run them in parallel for max power. You would have to make sure that your amp is stable for 2ohm operation, and what the specs say the watt output are at 2ohms would be your new power output. With more poweroutput, your amp will run hotter, so make sure its not in an insulated part of the vehcle and has decent way to give off heat.

It won't hurt the subs, but the amp is a different story. Make sure that bad boy is rate 2-ohm mono, or 1-ohm stereo. Also, when you take the amp too lower levels of resistance it gets hotter, so as said above make sure it's mounted in a well-ventilated area, or it'll shutoff all the time in a best-case situation.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

Impedence and resistance are different things.... you cant change the subs impedence but you can change the amps load. jfyi...
