Subwoofer Grille

Subwoofer Grille

Postby Craziluke » Tue Aug 01, 2006 12:03 pm

Hey guys sadle yone of my subwoofers blew this week, i wasnt even playing them loud but they were like 6-7 years old and one just blew. well i need to buy either 2 new subs, or just buy 1 which is the most affordable thing to do. if i buy one i was thinking of buying a mesh grille for like 10$ each just so they could kinda cover the differnt speakers. do the grilles affect the sound? should i just buy 2 new ones?.

grilles do not effect the sound, what kind of subs do you have now, and what amp are you using including watts

I ran into the problem of my subs hitting the grill, so I put them on loosely, then I got the rattle from the grill. I ended up giving the grills to a buddy.

I had grilles on my old MTX's 12's with no problems, and those things use to bump. I still have the grilles, they came with the q-logic box, i think I might even have that still

hey i have 2 12" rockford fosgates. i dont know what there max watt is or coils or ohms. but my amp is a jensen 500watt, so with this how many max watt output should i get? how man voice coils? and how many ohms?

also i really like my rockfords but is there something better and will running one old rockford and a new differnt sub screw up the sound?

We need a lot more info:

I'm still not sure what you're trying to do.
I thought one of your subs blew out? so in that case, you only have 1 12" RF sub.

We need to know model numbers.

Also, jensen amps are crap. Focus on RMS values and not peak.

Avoid the RF Punch... if you want a solid 12" sub get the JL W3v.2 or Alpine Type S... The Type Es are good for their price range, but are mediocre subs overall...

Read above. The Type Es are very solid entry level subs (I've heard some great sounding systems consisting of them), but you can do a whole lot better for not much more money by going for the Type S instead. The Type S is essentially the same as the original Type R with a few design changes. It will also allow you for a bit of headroom in case you ever decided to upgrade your amp (it would improve a great deal). It's a very tight sub, and I'd say look into it before you consider the Type E any further.
