i checked some places online and honestly couldnt find anything with the same features the jensen has for less than 799.... so the price is very very good. i dont have anything personal against jensen i had some jensen subs in my last car that worked fine..... but in a lot a cases you can find better products (subs, amps, head units) from other companies for almost the same price. either way. i'd say if you have the money and really want an in-dash dvd thats not the flip-up style, youll have a hard time finding a better deal.

If you can spend a little more cash and want better sound AND dvd video, Pioneer makes a unit which plays DVD-A (stands for DVD audio). Have you ever listend to a CD where a song starts out with a strong bass line, and as soon as the other instruments kick in the bass line drops in volume? This happens because CD's can't hold enough music information to keep everything at the volume they are supposed to be. With DVD-A this won't happen! It will sound like you are in the sound room with the artist when they recorded the music!
Downside: you will have to buy music recorded in the DVD-A format. Some of these DVD-A discs are "dual mode" so you can hear them in DVD-A on DVD-A players, and play them as a regular CD in regular CD players.

Hope this helps,
David

What if you were to burn music to your own DVD. Is that the same?

The music that you are burning would HAVE to be in DVD-A format before burning (or you need to have software which can convert it, but converting from CD audio to DVD-A will not give higher sound quality), and would have to be written with a burner and software which can read/write in DVD-A.

There is no easy way to improve music formating which already exists. If your starting format is CD-A, then you will not get a higher sound quality from it (without expensive software which can upsample, dithering changes, ect.), if your starting point is DVD-A and you have a converter program you can change it to CD-A.

Wow... I never knew that was the cause; I just thought I had a crappy set-up! (Pioneer DEH-P2600 HU; cheapy I got since the OEM started skipping and the dealership wanted $200 to install an AutoZone-type stereo that was worth $40) But then again, Pioneer isn't like Boston Acoustics either, and I have only recently began to care more about sound quality!
