Here is an easily performed change which will improve the sound quality of not only the stereo as a whole, but also your new speakers:
Put your new tweeters in the kick panel so they are aimed up, and towards the center of the roof. The factory tweeter location points the tweeter STRAIGHT at your face, so it will seem louder than all the other speakers. When you go to a concert you try to get a seat in front of the middle of the stage right? Moving the tweeters will have a similar effect (will help center your soundstage).
Someone above suggested sound deadening and they are absolutely right! Adding some sound deadening will keep the speaker cone's vibration moving air as sound rather than the vibration going into the steel of your door where it will be lost (it will also help to keep the speakers basket from vibrating resulting in a tighter, higher quality sound). You don't have to pay an arm and a leg for Dynamat or Cascade products. Check your local phone book for a rubber shop (I use FLN-Mar) and get yourself some 1/8" neoprene sheet. You can use it not only to deaden the steel of the door, but if you use a single sheet to cover the entire inner steel door skin (behind the panel) you will also cover up the large holes in the door which will lessen the wind noise, road noise, and engine noise that enter through your doors! Even with your stereo off the car will be quieter after the neoprene. 1/8" neoprene sheet is cheap too, at about $16 per door!
Hope this helps,
David
