Everyone who uses this board could listen to exactly the same peice of music, in exactly the same car, with exactly the same stereo, and it will sound different to all of us! Everyone's ears are different, the shape on the outside, inside the canal, and so is their face. This affects how we hear things. You need to go to local shops and listen to every make / model of sub you can (and make sure you use the same peice of music every time, at every store) and make your decision based on what YOU think. In addition to everyone hearing things differnetly, human beings also don't have a very good long term memory for sound (we remember the information that sound gave, but not exactly what it sounded like). It sounds strange, but it is true (imagine how much of our brain we would have to use to remember every sound we hear!). Because of this you should bring a note pad with you. Write down every thing you hear (i.e. does this make / model sound boomy, slow, muddy, clear, smooth, etc.), and take that pad with you every time you listen to a sub ( you can also write down model numbers and prices on the same pad to make thing eaiser). You should also ask the salesman for the minimum enclosure volume (some subs need a LOT of space), and figure out if you are willing to give up that much of your trunk.
If you are really going to go nuts with your enclosure, you should ask the salesman for these numbers:
Resonant Frequency (FS)
Impedance
DC Resistance (RE)
Mechanical Q Factor (QMS)
Total Q Factor (Q/T)
Equivalent Cas Air Load (VAS)
As well as:
Sensitivity
Qms
Qes
Mms
Cms
BL
Hope this helps you wake the neighbors!
