I hate it when "car audio" companies tell people to ground their amps to the metal in the trunk! You amplifier will run more smoothly if you run the amps negative ground to the negative of the cars battery (run the power AND ground from the battery to the amp)!

It doesn't matter where on the battery you grab the power and ground (terminal, post) as long as you have a tight connection and a large surface area on the "eyelet."

I would agree with cam2Xrunner that you may have connected the wrong remote wire. Make sure your remote turn on is connected to the "Blue with white trace" wire. You should also check the fuse on the new power line near the battery (which should have been installed within 12 inches down the line from the battery), it may be dead, or may not be there at all (the flash on the amps light could be powered by the remote turn on wire).

You had a good idea in cutting that ground wire down, too long a ground can cause electromagnetic interferance, ground loops, among other things. According to MECP standards (I am MECP certified) a ground wire which is not run all the way back to the battery should be no longer than 18 inches.

Hope this helps,

David

Sorry I didn't reply but thanks cam2Xrunner! That was exactly the problem. I had the remote turn on connected to the harness and not my HU. I got a question for you though. Let's say I want to install a second amp. Can I hook up another remote turn on lead to another of my HU's connectors. Im using the P.CONT(blue/black) one right now the two extras are EXT. ANT (pink/black) and ANT.CONT (blue wire). I know it seems like a stupid question but I don't want to hurt my HU by drawing too much power. I have the Kenwood X789.

You can conect as many devices as you would like to your remote turn on lead. My system had 5 graphic eq's (Audiocontrol EQT's), a sub processor, and three amps connected to my remote turn on. That's 9 devices on one remote turn on. You can connect as many as you want, and the worst that would happen is the head won't provide enough power to turn on all of the devices. The head only puts a certain amount of current and voltage through the turn on lead, and more power cannot be drawn from it. If you are that worried about burning your head unit, add a fuse to the remote turn on line. Check your owners manual to find the current supplied by your remote turn on lead, or call Kenwood for this information (most car stereos have a 1/2 amp (0.5 amp) turn on lead). Hook all the devices that require a remote turn on lead to the same turn on from your head unit.
