Ipod Nano, Car Dock Help, Is this possible?

Well I went out and bought a 2 Gig, Black Nano, I was sick of my Ishuffle with no screen. I will keep that for work outside and gym time. But the Nano will need to be docked. I plan on buying a Pioneer CD-IB100, iPod interface adapter. My headunit would display Playlist names song names and all that good stuff, I would be able to control my Ipod via my remote for my HU or my HU buttons themselves.

(Note: I know they make 100s of types of Radio FM transmitters, but I went to a local Tweeter and played with all of these and they were over all pretty weak. I also read alot of reviews with mixed results, That is not a road I want to go down.)

The unit is a pretty simple hook up, IP BUS, Ground and 12 volt & IPOD.

Here's where I have the issues. All of the IPOD holders for the Nano just grab the vent or stick to the dash.

I want to take an Apple Ipod Nano dock, and mount it in my car somehow.

Option 1:

Simply place the dock station in the little change area. Leave it exposed and out in the open.

Option 2:

Since I don't smoke take out the ash tray, and hack out the back, and fiberglass or mount the dock into the ash tray. (Hard to take a picture of without dock.)

I would probably buy a dock from the local Apple Store.

Does anyone know if there would be an issue with this?

I will call Panasonic tommorrow to make sure.

The Interface is Ipod Nano Compatiable.
The Interface can be ran through a dock.

I will go to the Apple store and find out.

If the dock will be able to be powered by the interface.
See if there is any others issues I may encounter.

Footnotes:

Looking for Ipod Nano plug facts.
Ashtray or out in the open coint tray install?
General Input welcome.

I actually work for a Tweeter store in Atlanta. The Name in our area is called HiFiBuys. We do alot of ipod installs at our location. If you have alot of music on your ipod and you like to hunt and choose individual songs. I would recomend that you get an aux input for you pioneer radio instead of the CDIB100 ipod interface. The ipod is much easier to search for music on. If you just like to switch between play lists and track up and down, buy the ipod interface. We also make those custom docks for cars. Heres a link to one we did in a Camry.

nice install... never would have thought of that spot. it looks like you can still fully operate the click wheel, which is a plus for using an aux input.

Since it's a Nano and so small, I'm guessing it would also fit in the thin cigarette tray (not ashtray). I've been thinking of some way to use that tray since I got the car.

When you get out of the car, just slide the tray in to completely hide the iPod!

Cigarette tray? You mean the thing that fills the empty space of the climate control? I don't use it all that much except for keeping it open and using it to hold my cell phone when I'm not using it... Good idea using it for the Nano, though!
